I did a CC subscription today, and installed Photoshop. Problem is, I can't load images (dialog box displays, I can choose file but it won't load at all). Also, the working area is completely black, except for the title bar, when I start Photoshop (default working area chosen is "Start"), I can change the working area to others and it will display things, but I can't load images or do anything.

Lightroom works fine. EDIT: Photoshop Version 2017 works fine too, just the 2018 version doesn't work.

System specs:

CPU: Intel Celeron CPU J3455, 4x 1.5GHz (up to 2.3 GHz)

RAM: 2 GB installed, will upgrade to 6 GB soon

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 500

I have the same issue with Photoshop. (And also Premiere Pro & After Effects for that matter)

When I start it up, it just shows the title bar and the rest is black. It's not frozen though cause I can still click on the menu/title bar and open preferences etc.

What I can't do however is open a new file or do anything I actually want to use photoshop for. It just opens the pop up for new document but that's just black as well and doesn't load.
I can open an existing image or file, but then I can't edit it or do anything on it

What I have tried so far with no solution:

- Shift - Click open Photoshop to start up without plugins
- Uninstalling Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, After Effects
- Going into preferences of photoshop -> Performance ->  Advanced -> Set it to basic & restarted PS
- Go into preferences -> General -> Unchecked the box for "Show "Start" workspace when no documents are open" & restarted PS
- Signed out of CC desktop app. Went into %AppData% -> Adobe -> Deleted Creative Cloud Libraries folder. Restarted Creative Cloud desktop app and signed in again, opened PS. No changes
- Checked the 'hosts'  file of PS to see if all adobe links were commented out with # or deleted. Hosts file was fine
- Made sure that the dedicated graphics card from nvidia is used when PS is opened
- Uninstall & reinstall photoshop

Currently as a sort of last resort, I am attempting an uninstall & re-install of photoshop. If this doesn't work either, I am ready to curl up into a ball and cry.
Please help!

Edit: Uninstall & reinstall has not provided a solution either.

No amount of patience is going to resolve this cause even after 10 minutes it doesn't load either.PS black screen.PNG

I'm using Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 and after installing it on my pc it turns black screen. I tried to uncheck the "Use Graphics Processor" in the Preference but that doesn't seem to work with everyone. My solution is to go to the Properties of Photoshop and Check  "The this program in compatibility mode" and select Windows 7 or 8. This works fine for me. Try it!

Try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer's site.

My graphics driver already was up to date (390.65). So I re-installed that driver again, that didn't help.

I am unable to rollback to the previous driver through device manager so I downloaded and installed one of the older drivers from the NVIDIA site (version 388.31)

Restarted laptop

Opened Photoshop...

...It works!!!

Thank you very much!

Now onto the Nvidia forums to tell them to fix this..

I had the same problem since buying my laptop and went through every conceivable fix possible.  NVIDIA were extremely helpful and despite trying all their suggestions, I just could not get ps cc 2018 to work with the NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARD.  However it was suggested by NVIDIA that I update their graphics card through Dell (my laptop supplier) and after doing this Photoshop is now working perfectly.  Just a suggestion, if your laptop has more than one graphics chip and you are having this problem, perhaps it would be a good idea to download NVIDIA updates from the supplier other than NVIDIA.  This was their suggestion and it worked for me.  Don't know how or why but it does and after months of trying to fix the problem it is now working.  Good luck

Thanks for the question.  After reading the responses, I went into my computer settings, updated my drivers (none were NVIDIA), restarted my computer, and Photoshop showed my images and layers!

Thanks for the help everyone!
