Hi everyone,

We just posted an update that includes addressing this issue. You can get the update from Photoshop's Help> Updates...

Alternatively, you can go to this link to download an installer:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4733

You should no longer see the application error on launch. Because the chipsets that throw this error don't support SSE2 instruction sets, GPU features and 3D features in Ps CS5 Extended will not work.

Regards,
steve

I have a computer with this problem that you can purchase for a reasonable price.  It is a AMD Athlon XP 2000+.  I just tried to install Photoshop CS5 and I keep getting the error message that everyone is talking about. Email me at chad.vogeler@gmail.com if you would like to purchase it.

Hi,

Are you running into the same launch error with 12.0.0? Or or you running into problems getting the updater to install?

thx,

steve

For anyone having problems getting the 12.0.1 update to install, do you have just a Photoshop CS5 point product install, or are you using a Creative Suite SKU? Did you license Photoshop on install (entered serial number), or are you running on a trial license? If you are running on a trial license, could you be past the 30 day trial period?

Do you see an error in the installer dialog, or an error trying to launch Ps? Catz's error is showing up in the installer dialog.

thx,

steve

It should install for both trial and licensed products. I was mainly asking about it to get more data points. I was also wondering if something in the activation mechanisms might be causing an updater failure, for the case where Ps never launches correctly and is over the 30 day trial limit. It is purely conjecture on my part, for this particular case where many here could very well be in that condition.

All that said, we actually have a lead on the problem and it has nothing to do with activation.

thx,

steve

Could you provide more info about your system? As far as i know, this problem has only been seen on old processors that don't have SSE2
