Launched Photoshop CS6 this morning, and suddenly it is a trial version of CS6 Extended. I did not ask for this, I do not want this, I bought, paid for and registered the regular version on the day it was released. I am not renting the software via that stupid creative clod thing, I bought it the regular way. What is happening here? Is this going to happen every time they release a minor update? How do I make it go away?
Today we released Photoshop update version 13.0.4 (for Mac perpetual customers) and version 13.1.2 (for Creative Cloud members, Mac and Windows), resolving this licensing issue:
How to get the Update
1. In Photoshop, choose Help > Updates.
2. The Adobe Application Manager will launch. Select Adobe Photoshop CS6 and choose Update.

It's been about 30 hours since I reinstalled CS6 and only upgraded to
13.0.1 and ACR 7.3. So far, the demonic CS6 Ext trial has not raised its
hideous head again!

I'm on 72 hours now so I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that the reinstall to 13.01 and ACR 7.3 is a definite fix.
Again to reiterate, unless you have a new Retina Mac, the 13.02 update is pointless. So there is no point in getting annoyed as it is very simple to fix. Getting mad about it is understandable - I was really mad last Saturday and Sunday having wasted some hours and gone around in circles. But that was before I knew how to fix it for sure. Reinstalling might be an inconvenience but it is not a big deal. Takes about 15 or 20 minutes when you know what you need.
It would have been if somebody from Adobe had come in to this thread and given some assurances. And removing the download wouldn't do any harm to save numerous other people getting affected. But I guess they can't admit a bug openly until they have a fix for it. It would be interesting to know what proportion of Mac PSCS6 users have been affected.

@ ClintGryke: when you uninstalled, did you select the box "Remove Preferences" ?
All,
As I stated a possible solution above to try to Deactivate before you install latest update, I'm sad to say that it didn't work, the pop-up came back today so I'll be performing the uninstall/reinstall to 13.0.1
Best,
Sam

No. I just did the simplest unistall possible. I didn't do it but I think if you click remove prefs it will may offer to deactivate and to completely remove all traces of PSCS6 from your machine. I didn't deactivate, just uninstalled and reinstalled. That way I kept all my prefs etc. After you reinstall, just get the 13.01 update from the Adobe Update site. It is safe to get ACR 7.3 by updating from within PSCS6. But I ignored the 3 other options. It may well be the Application Manager rather than PS itseld for all I know but I declined to experiment. Photoshop is now running perfectly with Lightroom 4.3 and ACR 7.3 and that is all I need.

Appreciate the response!
I went ahead and reinstalled PS CS6 and all updates (-13.0.2). I spent less than one hour doing so including having to install all of my Topaz Labs plugins (they got wiped out); other plugins such as Nik, OnOne & Alien Skin were ok.

Same thing happened to me this morning, seen the updater notification, was working in Lightroom at the time so clicked on the updater and when it was finished tried to export a file to Photoshop for editing and got the CS6 extended message. After finding this thread and entering my serial number when I relaunch PS it is back to showing CS6. I also got an email from Adobe asking for a confirmation of my address even though I have been registered with them for years.
Photoshop version is showing 13.0.3 and checking for updates indicates my software is up to date.

Install of 13.0.3 didn't help, my version ist still not activated. And I will not do that until Adobe confirms that my activation counter stays like before.
And no response from support, what's going on there??

So after running into the problem with the 13.0.2 update (and fixing it by entering the serial number), I installed the 13.0.3 update (yeah, I should have known better), and the same thing happened. It seemed to be fixed by entering the serial number again, but a few launches later, it reverted to an extended trial. I entered the serial number once again, and it seems to be OK so far (fingers crossed)... This is also on OS X, by the way.

Everyone,
I've been in discussions with Barry and he suggested I run Disk Utility and fix permissions on the hard drive where the application is.
I did this yesterday, shut down the iMac, shut off the mains, and then switched it back on again. The problem persisted.
However, this morning for some reason I'm able to open Photoshop CS6 and it starts up without asking for Serial numbers. I did it three or four times in quick succession.
The Adobe Application Manager is telling me that the 13.0.3 upgrade is available, but I haven't installed it yet.
It might just be worth Fixing Permissions to see if it helps.
Here's a link that Barry sent me on how to do it if you're not sure. It only took my machine 12 minutes to do. Just long enough for a coffee.

I encountered this same issue after installing the 13.0.3 update on 12/20. Every third time I would start PS I would be prompted to enter my serial number. I also noticed that the "About Photoshop" dialog indicated "Tryout". After a system shutdown/restart and starting/closing PS multiple times I have not received the prompt again. The "About Photoshop" dialog has also returned to normal.

Folks, the solution is simple to keep running until Adobe figures it out: Install your software again, only update Camera RAW 7.3, then go to Adobe's site and get the 13.0.1. 3 days running for me now, no glitches. iMac and Macbook Air, OS Lion 10.7.5

On Dec 21 I wrote this and have found out last week that my activation counter wasn't reset as promised by support but that it's on 2 activations. I never had my Design Suite on another machine and Adobe support tells me now that it can't be reset to one.
Be warned!!
A VERY unhappy customer.

Yup - I'm weary of repeating... Windows 7 64-bit still demanding relicensing almost every time I launch cs6. I offered to post all my system info, but nobody from adobe seemed interested. We are obviously the poor relations in this problem!
Sigh.

And I note... I joined this forum on 7 Oct 2012, which is when I first started having this problem... Hey, it's only 7 months... Why am I complaining?

The really irksome thing about this situation, other than that it has existed for this long, is that these clowns are already talking about forcing everyone to a subscription model for their software in CS7. I am in no mood to give Adobe one more dime of our money until these issues in CS6 have been effectively resolved. Full stop.
It's time to fire up the Executive Email Carpet Bomb. I don't believe that anyone at Adobe actually reads these forums, or if they do, they just don't care. They already have your money. I think it's time to let them know that this prolonged behaviour IS going to affect their bottom line. Here's a guide:

That's a good idea.
I'm using a mac and haven't had a problem since reverting to 13.0.1, but I'd be willing to send a description of the problem when it did happen to me.
You're saying an Executive Email Carpet Bomb? How about posting the email addresses of the executive we should be getting in touch with?
I haven't a clue where to start looking for these people, and I'm sure there are plenty of others like me.
If the contacts were posted there would be more chance of a lot more people complaining.

I am very sympathetic to those still being victimized by this.
FWIW, here's what I did and where I am...
At some point, after scraping off my CS6 install and re-installing it, I felt comfortable doing an upgrade. Things were fine for maybe a week or 2. Then the "your trial is over" malarkey began afresh. I scraped off CS6 and re-installed again, and allowed the updates, all the way up to whatever is current as of this moment, and so far, no more trial version business.
I share your feeling that we aren't very important, else the problem would have been rectified 2 quarters ago. yeah.
My position: this trial version error is part of CS6, and I feel that a realistic strategy is to be at the ready with the installer..be ready to clean off the "bad" CS6 installation including all bits, caches, preferences, and re-install it all over again, let the updaters update, etc.

Ever since going back to 13.0.1 on the Mac, I've had no problems for going
on months now. I just won't do any CS6 updates.

I don’t think the problem is on Mac computers. Its on Windows 7 64 bit. The same updates for Mac are not available for Win.
Thanks

not much of a fix for the mac side by my experience; I reinstalled, finally felt confident to update and that went ok for several weeks before I got that trial version expiring nonsense again.
here it is now several weeks again since that, and I am hoping things will behave themselves, but won't be a bit surprised if they don't.
from what I'm reading here, adobe users of both platforms are getting the message loud and clear.

FWIW,
I had been having this issue lately as well. In one of my latest attempts to fix the issue by entering my Master Suite serial number (again) into Adobe Application Manager, it allowed me to use Photoshop, but AAM was listing "Try" to the right of Photoshop with most everything else listed as "Installed." I was like, "TRY??? I bought and registered this about 7 months ago!"
Today I thought, I wonder if it still says that? So I launched AAM and immediately got notice of an update to AAM (I guess AAM updates aren't found/displayed in the Apple menu bar, like other updates -- i.e. Adobe "A" logo w/ a number next to it? There was no notice in the menu bar of any updates.). So I applied the update and everything in my Master Suite is showing as "Installed" at the moment.
I'm ... uhhh ... cautiously optimistic.
We'll see what happens in the near future.
My system:

So today's wrinkle on the problem was that I launched Photoshop and get the regular (licensed) splash screen and then over the application window an error message that says there's a problem with the license and that I should restart my computer and try again. If the problem persists contact Adobe support. The error was 129.9
I quit Photoshop and started it up again - didn't reboot my Mac Pro - and the product ran fine with no complaint about the license.
I have already entered my serial number twice to get rid of the trial mode and now this. As far as I can see the only change was that I restarted my mac earlier in the day (CS6 was not running at the time) and this was the first time I ran Photoshop after the restart.
I am receiving e-mail updates on this thread and unless I've missed it, I don't recall anyone else mentioning error 129.9. Mac Pro (early 2008) OS X 10.8.2 Photshop CS6 13.0.2
