Photoshop CS6: Trying to delete a path segment delete's the entire path

I can't delete a path segment. I select the path segment with the hollow arrow tool, but when I click "delete", it deletes the entire path, not just the segment.  What is wrong?

Thanks for any help.

I tried your solution, and I was still not able to delete a path segment. However, I quit Photoshop, and restarted my computer (if I remember correctly), and then it worked properly and I was able to delete the path segment. So I wonder if my Photoshop preferences may have somehow gotten corrupted.

Anyways, thank you for your reply.

Except that the link is to a video about Illustrator, not Photoshop.

Hi!

You need to make sure that you click just on the path segment that you want to delete. Using the Direct Selection arrow (hollow) make sure that the points of that segment are hollow and then hit the delete key ONCE. Hitting it a second time will delete the whole path.

I'm glad to hear that it worked after restarting. Here is some information that might be helpful in the future about preferences:
