Photoshop placed vector and embeded smart objects retaining link to AI from previous file. Help!!

Been working in adobe for like 20+ years. In middle of project.

Previously when I placed vector smart object scaled/warped and such it would then later drag to new file, it would retain psb file name but let me open smart object in illustrator and update to new art. Great for working on files that I want to duplicate custom warp, efeects, etc on label art and then apply to many other flavors/sizes. Today the files are retaining original illustrator informationa across multiple files instead of creating new identity. So when I update flavor from pineapple to peach for instance it is updating on both cans. It use to see the one I copied over as a new vector smart object, which I liked. Is there something I can shut off?

    i've always just drag from file to file. i did try what she said and actually tried earlier via the pallet by right clicking and dragging down because of another persons post but it won't allow me to either way. the option is grayed out. new smart object via copy

    Sounds like you are using Linked instead of Embedded Smart Objects. See the differences here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/create-smart-objects.html

      actually this is the one that worked. thank you. not sure how it changed since the last time i did it. don't always update so might have been changed for a while.

      question. how do i delete this post and/or at least the screen shot i attached to it please?
