I have been using an old version of photoshop on my laptop running Microsoft 11 with no problems. Today I start it and it starts to install and gets to installing color preferrences or sometime something else and then disappears. I try again multiple times and same result. I restarted my laptop. Same results.

If you still want to get Photoshop 7 working and can't get the Photoshop reset preferences dialog using the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keyboard shortcut, then go to

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0 and move the Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings folder

to your desktop, then see if Photoshop 7 will start.

If not, you can try right clicking on the shortcut that you use to start Photoshop 7 and click on Run as adminstrator.

When you press the Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys you need to be very quick about doing it just after you start the launch of Photoshop 7.

It may take several tries.

I hate to say this but chances are slim that you got a legitimate Photoshop CS6 version.

He has a 100% feedback so I am hopeful. We have had great success in buying on ebay.

You tried resetting the photoshop 7 preferences and

did you get the dialog that asks  "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

Every time you use Photoshop 7 the preferences files are written to, so over time they may get corrupted.

Many times when Photoshop starts acting up, a reset of the Photoshop preferences fixes the problem.

Reset preferences

Just after starting the launch of Photoshop 7 hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift and keep holding the keys down until you see a dialog that asks "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?", then click Yes.

Have you ever made backups?

It could be something in a Windows update that is causing that.

I tried to do this but although I am positive I was able to restore it to earlier points before it says no restore points exist.

The splash screen is listing the sub-modules as they load.

But honestly, Photoshop 7 is from 2002. That's twenty-three years ago! It's really a miracle it has worked as long as it did.
