Photoshop V26 Not Compatible [Missing AVX2]

Community Beginner ,
Oct 14, 2024 Oct 14, 2024

I saw the captioned update in the creative cloud but it comes with "Not Compatible". New release of Bridge is also not compatible.

My config is:

Win 10 Home

16GB Ram

i7-3770K CPU

Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB

I have just renewed my subscription and have never read any news about hardware requirement changes.

Any input?

@josantgomez AVX2 is related to the CPU and not the GPU

Por cierto, en cuanto a Bridge, a mi me parece que aparecían dos versiones de posible descarga. No una sola.

Your computer also will not be compatible with Windows 11, and Windows 10 support ends in a year. Time to think about a newer computer.

That CPU is WAY too old to be supported by Windows 11.

(Rudeness removed by moderator) New capabilities often require new hardware. That's just reality.

Seems I could get a slower less potent processor that supports AVX2:

Probably powersupply and case too, and why bother with old SATA devices when there are faster new options available, old PCI cards? Probably not much luck on newer mainboards, so hopefully there are USB replacments.

Mine is fine too, sure the 600MB/s SATA III limit is a bit oldschool, but it's still what I would call "fast". Could do 64GB RAM instead of 32GB but I did not want to remove the CPU cooler to get access. GeForce RTX 3090 24GB is AI de-noising those 45MP raws really fast.

@Wurstkrapfen As a matter of curiosity, how quickly does Photoshop start up on your rig? I moved away from SATA several years ago, but I recall Ps was taking a long time (>20 seconds) to get ready to work. Files bigger than a GB or so used to take forever, which really put a crimp in productivity, aka earning power. My NVMe drives are 12-15x faster than my SATA SSDs, and I couldn't imagine working without them, even on my laptop.

Who spends $3000? Don't exaggerate, you can get a new computer that runs Photoshop well for around $1000.

So you propose to buy a cheap machine to run PS and keep the older one for the rest? Sounds impracitcal.

No, I propose that if you want to run professional software, you need to keep your computer up to date.

The rest of the professional software runs fine and I wont get a professional computer for just 1000$.

Me too no AVX2 on my otherwise capable machine.

No photoshop updates for me anymore. No advanced Firefly updates.

Are there any ways around it, besides investing thousands of euros and many days of setting up a new OS?

Will Lightroom be the next not to update? Can I get my money back?

Video Editing stopped working for a while now because of AVX2 maybe they just wanted to get rid of the people asking whats going on. I'm still hoping for a workaround.

Hi, I'm still using PS v25. My subscription ends in Aug and I'll
switch then. PS works great I have no issues but the arrogance of Adobe to
force people to agree to their terms among other things is not hurting the
users, it's hurting the company as it's driving away customers, even the
most loyal ones.I've been learning Affinity Photo and loving it. Very
similar to PS but by default no destructive processing. In fact you can
embed a raw file into Affinity and go back at any time and update the raw
file while having no effect on the processing that was already done to it.
The only advantage PS has is primarily AI but I don't use AI in my work.
Affinity Photo gives you 6 months free use...no restriction 100% full
usage. They don't ask for your credit card, only your email. Google
Affinity photo and you will find most professionals who have had it with
Adobe are migrating to Affinity Photo (for photography based work).
Currently Affinity is version 2. You only pay once, less than $100 and
that's all you pay - no monthly subscription.

Good luck

Interestingly, when I explained this issue to Microsoft's Copilot, it also suggested changing to Affinity Photo.

I will be looking into it!

Noted for a later reply my mail. But unless some IT news pages cover this I doubt there will be any reversal.

Apparently it's possible to edit the aplications.json file in the installer folder /Products/AUDT and replace AVX2 with AVX, then it should install. If it works or just crashes is a question. Same as where do get that installation package.

I don't see any comment about photoshop instead of one asking where to get the package. This is used for mutliple Adobe products.
