Hi,

I have encountered a problem when trying to print from Photoshop, up until last week it was working fine. I would choose Photoshop to manage colours, then load my paper profile and color sync would be chosen which is what I want. But now I get Canon Colour Management, which is not what I want, and color sync is greyed out. I have shown on the attached screenshots.

I have found a workaround on Youtube, where I have to save my file as a Tiff file and then print through Preview on my Mac, I am then able to access color sync when doing this.

I am running Mac OS Ventura Version 13.6.6, Photoshop version 2024, and my printer is a Canon Pixma IP8750, driver version Canon iP8700 series 16.80.0.0

@paulc65657246 when you select Photoshop Manages color the OS should communicate to the print driver,

then "colorsync would be selected and greyed out as below with my Epson

[when looking at "print settings" it is the printer driver software you're seeing, in your case this is canon software (not part of photoshop) - you may like to ensure you have the latest driver version? Delete the old printer in system settings, then download a new driver from Canon (never Apple) and install then, in system settings, select it]

I've seen it suggested by experts that this is a Mac OS bug - with an issue in connection with the aforementioned Photosop-to-print-driver communication. Also that the way round this has been to simply try repeatedly til it happens to fall on the correct options. Frustrating I know.

When Canon color controls is auto selected, is there an option within the Canon driver color settings to disable color management? That’s the way we used to do it in earlier generation printer drivers. Apple / Adobe / printer makers have tried to simplify this but it's not always reliable.

Below is what's available in my Epson driver with Epson color controls active, one would hope the prints should be OK with this setting: "Off (no ColorAdjustment)"

IF Canon has something like that why not try a print with PS manages color and the "Print Settings" as above

FYI its not 100% reliable here either:

whilst testing this in MacOS Ventura the relationship between PS and the driver was not consistent. With PS manages color I might get colosync greyed, or Epson greyed, MOST of the time I got colorsync greyed which is what I'd hope for. When Epson was selected and greyed in my case the colour controls I show above in the driver were grey too

With printer manages color (not what you want) I might get colorsync selected but not greyed - in that case a user would be selecting Epson color controls.

I hope this helps but I realise its not exactly a perfect solution!

then "colorsync would be selected and greyed out as below with my Epson" - This is exactly what i was getting last week, but now I get as the screenshot attached.

The printer driver I had was the latest version, but I took your advice and deleted and downloaded the software again from Canon. It was exactly the same as I had, but reinstalled it all the same, thank you. Unfortunately no difference.

I have no drop down menu with Canon to turn off No Colour Adjustment.

@paulc65657246 that’s very frustrating, if you try over and over again does the dialog ever come up with colorsync checked and grey? If not you'll be stuck with "printer color mamanagement" and Canion papers I'm afraid. Until it gets fixed.

As this is not only Canon its probably a macOS issue at the root.

As I mentioned, I see the issue too but mostly it comes up right.

I know it's not a solution, but if you give my reply an upvote here, this helps other users with similar issues to find useful information in future.
