Problem creating stacked image

I am trying to creat a stacked image of a white flower and I am running into an issue that I have never seen before. I load the files into a stack and auto-align the layers without issue. But after I auto blend the layers the resulting image appears like a blown-out negative image or weird pop-art file. If I combine two photos the results appear normally, but I'm using about 11 files to creat a focus stacked image and it will not render at all. I have not had any issues doing this with multiple files before. Appreciate anyone's assistance in identifying what I'm doing wrong as I am very much a novice with Photoshop.

The exact thing is happening to me. Also 19 images of a white flower. Just won't work. It does not seem to auto align, and the result of the images blending is that weird negative blur image.

Hey @teresap94408268,

It looks like you're commenting on an older thread so you might not get a response for the OP. However, it sounds like there just might be an image with in the stack that is causing the issue. Have you had this issue with other stacks before?

I tried all of the obvious things. Downloaded a stacking app Zerene Stacker and it worked perfectly. Didn’t want to spend all day trying to figure it out.

In a frist step please try to disable the option to "Use Graphics Procesor" from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Dear AxelMatt,

Thanks for your reply and advice. I disabled the option to "Use Graphics Processor" and then tried stacking the images once again and the problem persisted - but only with this particular stack of white flower images. I tried a stack of purple flower images of 5 images and one with 19 images and they worked flawlessly. I then went back to the white flower and used different series of pictures of the same flowers and tried a series of 7 and 9 stacked images and they worked. However, when I went back to the exact series of images and tried a 10 stack of images I again got the blown out result as originally reported. Very baffling - there must be something about this white flower sequence that is causing this issue (??). Thanks for your help.

You don't use the recent Photoshop version and the recent driver for your graphic device

In a first step dowload the recent Studio version (555.99) for your card and install it.

It's recommended to install the Studio version!!

...- but only with this particular stack of white flower images. I tried a stack of purple flower images of 5 images and one with 19 images and they worked flawlessly. I then went back to the white flower and used different series of pictures of the same flowers and tried a series of 7 and 9 stacked images and they worked. However, when I went back to the exact series of images and tried a 10 stack of images I again got the blown out result as originally reported.

If this only happens for this stack it seems there's a problem with one of the files.
