Hi, I'm really hoping someone can help me here - suddenly I'm unable to save .psd files! I can open existing files I have, but as soon as I edit them or add any layers, it either corrupts the thumbnail with warped colours or saves as plain blank white file. When I try to open the affected file from Finder, the psd appears fine within photoshop. Could the settings messed up somewhere? I can't figure it out myself. I uninstalled 24.1.1 thinking it was the update but even with 24.1.0 it's still happening 😞 I am running Ventura on 13.1 Apple M1 Pro. At this point I feel it's a photoshop problem but could also be the Ventura recent update too? Anyone else having this issue? I'm unable to work properly and it's getting really frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated. - Thank you.
Windows: Edit > Preferences > File Handling
Mac: Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling
Within the File Saving Options section are options that deal with Image Previews and Thumbnail. Does this help?
I believe I’ve found the culprit in the File handling options - ‘Maximise PSD and PSB File Compatibility’ was set to Never. So I’ve changed this to Always and it seems to be saving files correctly now. The thumbnails once again visible in finder. The new update must have toggled some settings as I’ve never had this problem before. Hopefully sorted now, phew!

A few things to try/check:
1. Make sure Photoshop is listed (and active) under Apple System Preferences/Security and Privacy/ Full Disk Access
2. Go to Photoshop Prefrences/Technology Preview and check "Disable Native Canvas".

Unlike your case, I can see the thumbnail as if the image has been cut off (the rest of the area has been erased).
Like a png file. But I didn't cut out and all the layers are flat, so there's no reason to look like that.
I don't know exactly when, but it's been a while for me. At least 6 months?
It didn't happen in Photoshop 2020 and 2021, and it happened since 2022.
But the image itself was not damaged or had any other problems, so I didn't report a bug and was just using it. lol
btw, my desktop is Window10, not Mac.

If you see the entire image after opening the PNG file in Photoshop, you might want to try rebuilding the thumbnail using a "non-destructive" change.
In the case of a flat file, try Ctrl-i or Image > Adjustments > Invert (Colors)
Ctrl i to invert, then Ctrl i to bring the colors back to normal. That counts as a change. When you close the file, you will be ask to save it and that should rebuild the thumbnail. Let me know how it goes.

Not PNG. Just PSD file. And it doesn't do that to all images, but it affects thumbnails only in some images.
Of course, that's not the case with real images.

I see... Windows does not natively render PSD thumbnails as I recall. You need a third party extension for this. What utility are you using to render thumbs?

I use Sagathumbs. And of course, it could be a problem with third-party programs themselves.
But because I've been using it for a long time and only found the 2022 and 2023 versions as written above. So my conclusion is that something has changed when saving the psd file in 2022 and 2023.
There is no inconvenience in using it.

If it is Photoshop, there's a chance that your settings went to defaults with the new version.
Maximise PSD and PSB File Compatibility’ under Preferences > File Handling should be set to "Always".
Then you would try a "non-destructive" edit and re-save the PSD.

I always leave that option on!
This is thumnail. I've never made a mark like that. That happens sometimes. (Actual images do not)
I don't know if Adobe will judge this as a bug. Actually, it doesn't matter if you leave it as it is. It doesn't damage my image.
But it wasn't like that before, but since 2022 version is like this...
If I remember correctly, several parts have been revised about the save psd option around 2022 version. I think there was a bug like this in the process.

Ok, your File settings look good and after all, I'm on Macbook. So head on over to the "Bugs" section:
First, start typing "thumbnail" in the searchbox for articles about PSD thumbnails and Windows to see if your issue has already been reported. If no results there, go ahead and submit a bug report and see where it goes.
