Why is it that all of my Photoshop project files, which have been saved as .PSD, are showing as "Adobe Photoshop Image.26" as the filetype listed in the file properties? If I recall correctly, it didn't used to be like this, instead just showing .PSD as the filetype.
Has this been a recent change to how the types are listed, or am I experiencing an issue of some sort that I should look into? This is impacting both new and existing projects.
Again, they show this as the filetype: "Adobe Photoshop Image.26 (psd)"
Any help would be appreciated!

This is the correct way to list it in file associations. It specifies which Photoshop version is set to open PSD by default (there could be several).
There is nothing wrong.

Has it always been this way? I feel like I've never seen it listed like that.
To be clear, I am talking about the file properties as shown in Windows 10, where it lists "Type of file".

I have this problem. My Photoshop is on version 26.3.0 20250122.r.156 bfca642 and I can't open files that are of type Adobe Photoshop Image.26. What can I do to open this type of file? Thank you in advance.

Is PSD listed in Windows file associations as "Adobe Photoshop Image.26"? And is Photoshop set as the default application to open these files?

In Portuguese.

And Photoshop still won't open PSDs? Then it's probably a different probem, unrelated to file associations.

This still does not help. Although the file is listed as a .psd when I try to open it, it says .jpg file format not found?? Highly confusing.

You need to explain this. Show screenshots as the file appears in Windows Explorer, and any error messages you get.
Do you have file extensions visible in Windows? Some laptops come with extensions hidden by default, which is a very bad idea causing double extensions/missing extensions/all kinds of problems.

The file does not show the extension. But I hover over it, it does. However I am willing to try your suggestion

I'm having the same issue, the file is stored on an external hard drive and I have checked that all of the settings on my computer line up with what has been previously said in this discussion.

I was also curious because before yesterday the type file was always showing as .PSD, like other : .PSB, .TIFF, .JPG etc...
I understand [ it's nothing wrong] it's only a different way to indicate the type of file..., but why ?
Strange that it suddenly change to Adobe Photoshop Image 25 instead of just the simple .PSD.
