"Could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)"

I'm trying to save a file and an error keeps popping up saying ""Could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)". I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended. I have no other windows open. I checked the RAM allocated to Photoshop, in the Preferences > Performance tab, and I have tried it at 60% (980 MB) and 90% (1483 MB), still with no luck. I tried Purging the undo, clipboard and history with no help either.

I read a couple of other posts that were similar to this and people suggested " resetting the preferences as described in the FAQ." but is there any way to do this without closing Photoshop?

I can't loose this file, so any help woudl be appreciated.

Hi mgfranz,

We are happy to announce the release of Photoshop CC 19.1.5.

This update includes the fix for Photoshop CC 2018: An integer between 96 and 8 is required. Closest value inserted. "Could not complete your request bec…

Once the update is installed, to allow Photoshop to manage memory the temporary fix needs to be removed.

See this: Error while accessing performance preferences - 'An integer between 96 and 8 is required.'

It's like you've never seen anything like this. On different Photoshop it manifests itself in different ways (different progresses and their sequence are shown), but in any case there is an extra delay when saving the file.

For better clarity, set the parameter in the ...\Required\PSConfig.txt file

ForceProgress 1

(for CS6 you need to set it in the registry).

Restart Photoshop. Disable "Save preview" and "Maximize Compatibility". It is better to disable saving in the background (but you can leave it). Create a file 2000x2000px 16bit. Fill the layer with noise. Create a layer Vibrance +100. Duplicate it 80-100 times.

Save the file. Turn off all layers. Save the file.

You can measure the time for saving (for example, using a script).

If you have a powerful computer and you haven't noticed anything, then increase the file size, up to, for example, 10000x10000 or increase the number of adjustment layers.

Correct me if I did something wrong:

- new document with white background, 2000px x 2000px, 72 px/in, 16 bit
- layer from background, 'Add Noise' filter (Amount 10, Uniform)
- new Vibrance (+100) Adjustement Layer over previous layer
- this pair of 2 layers I duplicated 100 time (200 in sum)

I set ForceProgress 1 in PSConfig.txt file of Ps Required folder.
Then I launched Photoshop and disabled "Maximize Compatibility".

With enabled "Save preview" and layers visible:
I had 'Making preview' and 'Merging layers' progressbars

With enabled "Save preview" and layers invisible:
I had no 'Making preview' and 'Merging layers' progressbars

With disabled "Save preview" and layers visible:
I had no 'Making preview' and 'Merging layers' progressbars

So it seems in release 22.4.3 it works like you'd like it should?

You only needed to duplicate the Vibrance layer 100 times. Well, if with Preview and Compatibility turned off, everything works for you and you don't waste time on merging layers and creating previews, then they finally fixed it. There is still such a thing in 2020.

Originally I did like you corrected me, but as that was quite fast I thought I did something wrong. Now I repeated it and again there are no progressbars. btw Saving in Background box must be unchecked to see saving progressbar. Is there problem for you to get Windows 10?

Do mentioned file and one in Preferences folder ie. PsUserConfig.txt are for different tasks?

What the file from Required folder is for, and what commands it can use? I found in others topic you listed some others, but where exactly that can be checked?

You ask me as if I wrote the Photoshop. How do I know?

These parameters have always been. Until CS6, they were located in the registry. Even reg-files with descriptions were attached (in the form of optional plugins).

It seems that since CC (v14) the PSUserConfig and PSConfig files have appeared. I think they have the same meaning. The only thing is that editing PSConfig requires administrator rights and it can change when you update photoshop.

These are undocumented settings that are not in the main interface. It is difficult to find a description for all parameters now. Apparently the links have already been removed.

Here's what is officially available Enable optional extensions | Photoshop

Parameters are often changed, added/removed from version to version of Photoshop. You can find the parameter names in the Photoshop.exe file. Guess what they mean.

For example, for CS6 there is such

I tried ForceProgress 1 via PSUserConfig.txt and it didn't work. It worked only with PSConfig.txt, so it seems they can't use same commands. I still have CS6 and tried to find ForceProgress in registry but it wasn't there 😕 So maybe that's only in Photoshop.exe.

For CS6, you need to create parameters in the registry yourself
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\60.0]
"ForceProgress"=dword:00000001

For CC2020 everything works for the file
"... \ AppData \ Roaming \ Adobe \ Adobe Photoshop 2020 \ Adobe Photoshop 2020 Settings \ PSUserConfig.txt"

For 2021, I can't check.
Try to use "AllowUserConfigFile 1" in PSConfig.txt

P.S. Unfortunately, there are no links now.

With "AllowUserConfigFile 1" in PSConfig.txt it finally works, but I understand in your release, the commands in PSUserConfig.txt works for you without inserting that line?

btw does enabling 'File Saving Options: Image Preview' create a thumbnail in operating system? If so, .psd's have no preview (at least in Windows), so I don't understand it 😕

I followed the steps of this video, https://youtu.be/ySfIxqBzrrE, which someone put the steps for in one of the replies. It involves closing and restarting Photoshop, but I could not afford to lose any of my progress. To solve this problem, once I performed the steps, I turned my computer off via hard shutdown, pressing and holding the power button, hoping that Photoshop would automatically save the file so that it would reopen as a Recovered file. It worked!

Photoshop @Not #Enough #Memory #Error #Ram In this video, i will show you how to fix Adobe Photoshop Error - Could not complete the command because there is not enough memory (Ram). If you are facing same problem in your photoshop CC 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 or 2020 then it will help you to get rid
