Random blocks of transparency

While working on large documents, photoshop will randomly display rectangles of transparency (or at least the transparency grid pattern). They're only visible at certain levels of zoom, which in my current document is 66% and closer. If I zoom back out to 50% or further, the blocks disappear, but reappear if I zoom back in. Turning random other hidden layers on and back off seems to temporarily fix the issue. The blocks don't correspond to any masks, objects, channels, etc. in the document, and they don't appear in any output. It seems to only be a view error, but it's happening a lot recently (I believe since I updated to PS 2025).

I'm working on iMac Sequoia 15.5, Photoshop version 26.8.1, and the document is 6960 x 4640 at 72 PPI

That's sounds like a graphics problem. Do you have the latest graphics drivers for your video card?

I actually went back and reinstalled a previous version of photoshop because I found I was unable to use specifically Hue/Saturation Adjustment layers at all. When I created one, it opened the Properties window as usual, but only showed mask information. I tried selecting the layer and even deleting the mask, but nothing I did opened the Hue/Saturation options so I backdated to 26.6.1.

Here's the system info though, in case it contains something relevant despite the Application no longer being the same exact version. I tried to attach a txt file, but it just says "The file type (.txt) is not supported."

Hi @JustKacee,

Thank you for sharing the detailed description and your system info; that’s really helpful. Based on what you described, the blocks of transparency you’re seeing are display artifacts, which usually point to a GPU rendering issue rather than a problem with your actual image (as you confirmed, they don’t appear in the final export).

Since you’ve rolled back to version 26.6.1 to address the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer issue, here’s what I recommend:

Try toggling Use Graphics Processor off in Photoshop under Preferences > Performance, then restart Photoshop. If the artifacts disappear, this confirms it’s GPU-related.
If you need GPU acceleration for performance, try updating macOS graphics drivers (or re-enable GPU after restarting). A clean preferences reset can also help.

Regarding the Hue/Saturation issue in newer versions, that’s a known bug currently under review. You can follow updates or add details here:

Adjusting layer properties doesn’t work for Hue/Saturation & HSL layers

Once an update addressing this is available, I recommend updating to the latest Photoshop release when it’s out.

Let us know if disabling the GPU resolves the transparency glitch in your current version.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! Please go to the Help menu in Photoshop, then System Info, and copy the text. You can share the info with us by either pasting it as a reply here or in a text file and sharing the file with us.

To test, go to the Photoshop menu, then Settings, then Performance, and disable the option to Use Graphics Processor. Once done, relaunch Photoshop to check if it makes a difference.
