When the crop tool is inactive, pressing Return in a dialog passes the keypress through to the tool. I believe this is a bug. Not tested on Windows. Not document-specific.
1. Open a document
2. Press C to switch to the Crop tool
3. Press Esc to deactivate the crop rectangle
4. Press Cmd-Opt-I to open the Image Size dialog (as an example)
5. Change the Image Size and press Return to accept
Result: The crop rectangle is now activated.
Expected: Keypress is not passed through from the dialog and crop rectangle remains inactive
This can also be seen with Save As, pressing Return to accept the dialog passes the keypress through

Hi @ExUSA! 👋 Thanks for sharing the instructions.
I haven't been able to reproduce the issue on my end, maybe because I'm on Windows. I'll ask my Mac colleagues to test it out. Could you let me know what version of Photoshop and macOS you're using? It would be super helpful as well if you could share a screen recording showcasing the issue.
Thanks a lot for your patience! 😊
Alek

Yes Photoshop 26.4.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.3.2. This is not a serious issue, just seemed odd that a dialog keypress would bubble through to the selected tool.

Hi @ExUSA! I checked with the team, and it looks like this is expected behavior. If you'd like to share your feedback, I'd recommend heading over to the Ideas board. You can upvote existing threads or start a new one with your suggestions. The team reviews these and prioritizes upcoming features based on user interest. Here's the link.
Thank you!

Ok thank you! Just wasn't sure, a couple of times I accidentally cropped a picture and couldn't figure out why. Not a big issue.
