Question

save a file with serial numbers following the last file name in the folder

Hi,

I regularly scan images through a scanner to photoshop and I use them for different purposes

I want to create an action to automate the contrast adjustments and then to save the file to a folder

My need is to save all the files in a particular folder and I have to make it everyday now and then

The problem here is when i make it through actions it overwrites the old files

|I want to make any one of three things

1. When i'm importing a document from a scanner the file name should be generated with the current date and time like how cameras generate filename

Example : "2020-01-27-10-09-20.extension" or "20200127100920.extension" like year-month-date-hours-minutes-seconds

2. When saving an untitled document it should save the file with file name as same format as above

3. when saving file the name should be a 4 digit serial number and the number should be the one which is next to the file name of last file in the folder

Example :

If a folder contains a list of files with 4 digit serial number names

2401.jpg

2402.jpg

2403.jpg

2404.jpg

2405.jpg

2406.jpg

2407.jpg

2408.jpg

2409.jpg

2410.jpg

2411.jpg

2412.jpg

The next saved file should be saved with name "2413.jpg"

Please Suggest a way to automate this

And i have no clue about scripting

This is beyond an action, so something like Image Processor Pro and or Bridge would be the best approach without custom scripting (a script would likely need to read/write to a log file to keep track of the numbering, or perhaps work out the numbering from existing saved files).

Hi Daniel,

have you got Adobe Bridge? Batch renaming is a breeze using it, including adding the date created/modified and how you want the structure. So you can create an action for your adjustments and then batch rename using Bridge.

Batch renaming, we can do the same thing in Photoshop using batch automation

My challenge here is not the part just renaming the file, but the file saving process which got automated should not overwrite the other files in the folder.

In Batch automation the automation saves the file starting from serial number 1 every time when we save.

Already there will be files in the folder which got saved using same action which also starts with serial number 1.

That’s the exact problem here. It should not be like that rather it should be the serial number next to the last number in the folder.

Or when the file name becomes the date and time like 30012020095620.jpg, there will be nil chance to overwrite the old file since date and time cannot be same even for a second.

Hope now my challenge is more clearly explained.

Hi again, all this can be done in Bridge, and then some. Bridge is AWESOME! more powerful and helpful in many ways than one would expect at first glance!

Ill Give it a try,

Do we have options to scan documents directly in adobe bridge from a document sanner or a 3 in one printer. If so, please let me know how to make it.

becaus if there is no option to import from a scanner it will become double the work
