I need help please!

Recently, I have been using Photoshop 2024 version 25.0.0. Previously, I used Photoshop 2019. In PS 2024, I have a problem with creating actions to save files in a specified location. After finishing editing, I need to save each photo in 3 formats: 1) in PSD format, 2) in maximum resolution, and 3) in a resolution suitable for web publication. In PS 2019, I recorded actions that allowed me to save several photos in 3 different formats in the location I chose during the action creation with a single click. In PS 2024, I cannot record such actions.

Problem number 1: When I record an action, during the saving of subsequent photos using this action, the action changes the file name to the name of the file used during the action creation. So, when I save 3 photos using the recorded action, there is only one file in the target folder with the name of the file used during the action recording. The file name is also changed in PS itself. I tried to find a solution on the Adobe support site. Several people pointed out that during the action recording, the file name should not be highlighted in blue. I tried to record the action this way, but another problem arose. The action then saves 3 photos, but only in low resolution. It does not save the photos in PSD format or maximum resolution.

Currently, I deal with this problem by recording actions in PS 2019 and then importing these actions into PS 2024. This is very annoying and frustrating and takes up a lot of valuable time. Please help me solve this problem. I know many people are experiencing the exact same issue.

As you have found, actions only support 2 options when saving:

1) The full local path

2) The full local path + current filename

Here's a screenshot example from another discussion:

As you mentioned, some users can't seem to record both types, however, I have never been able to reproduce this problem and I don't have an easy solution.

If you are using File > Automate > Batch, there's a checkbox to 'Override Action "Save As" Command' which deals with the recorded filename issue.

2) What file format and file options?

3) What file format, pixel dimensions on the longest edge and file options?

I have several actions that work this way and they all work as they should. I'd re-record. The safest way is to use nested actions (one sub-action for each format) and then call on them in the master action.

Oh and yes, it's very important that the file name is not highlighted when recording the action. That's when it will overwrite.

I approach actions the same way as DFosse and it works well.

Since you already have your actions created in 2019 and and 2024, have you done a step-by-step comparison to see where they differ?

Without extensive research, I suggest trying Image Processor Pro, a free Photoshop script. It allows you to save in three different formats with or without a scaling factor. Have you thought about using this script or are you open to giving it a try?

Thank you very much for your suggestion. Yes, I tried Image processor script and unfortunately it doesn't work for me the way I need. In a few words: I need to record one action which saves an image in 3 different formats and to 3 different locations, one format to one location. Then I need to play this action as "Automate - batch" as I need to save several opened images with one click. The Image processor script let me choose one format and one location. I tried countless times with differenr settings and I just can't get what I need and what have when I record an action in 2019. I keep all my images on my hard drive really very well organized, with the same order and specific folders structure for the last several years and I just need to keep it the same.

The default script that ships with Photoshop is titled "Image Processor" and is found under the File > Scripts > Image Processor... menu.

"Image Processor Pro" is a 3rd party add-on, when installed it can be found under the File > Automate > Image Processor Pro... menu and should not be confused with the less capable script from Adobe.
