Screen flickering/stretching images when tab cycling

Hi,

Whenever we have more than 1 image open and want to cycle through the open images/tabs it shows a short flicker/ghost of previous image stretch on the screen. This is very annoying to the eyes and has been a persistent issue since PS 24.

I know that we can choose to open documents as tabs and the issue will not appear, but one should be able to use PS with floating images (as working perfectly for 10+ years before).

This is happening on all of our Mac M1's and was also happening on our Mac Pro Intel machines (which we don't have anymore).

I have provided a video showing what it looks like with and without the images as tabs.

Hopefully someone has a fix for this!

Setup:

Mac Studio M1 Max

Ventura 13.5.2

Photoshop 25.0.0

Hi @wt_imagework Go to Photoshop Preferences/Technology Preview and check “Disable Native Canvas”.

Upgraded to a Macbook Pro M3 Max and the issue still persist. Can't turn off/on native canvas because that totally f's up all files when opening.

Which monitor and what connection are you using? I have actually tried out with only one monitor, but come to think of it only on hdmi. Could be interesting to hear if it occurs via usb c connection.

This issue persist on my macbook air m1 as well so I do belive it has something to do with the M1/M1 Max chip.

Have talked to other people with the M1 Ultra chip who are not affected.

Update: I've been working on a single monitor lately without experiencing this issue, so this is probably a dual monitor issue.

@KristofferSkj One was posted to bugs with a comment that you couldn't edit and another posted an hour later in discussions. Now that they are merged you can comment/edit away.

First of all I didn't merge it and second, the forum double posted my post for some reason. Send your complaints to Adobe.

Hey @kevin stohlmeyer it was working for a couple of hours, but there was a new update to PS yesterday that broke this function for us. We have had to turn off the "disable native canvas" because when we open up images now it shows random squares of information all over the image, we have to shake the image to get it off, but it then gives us a lowres preview of the files and we can't zoom smoothly or anything.

So, problem unfortunately persist.

When I have multiple images open, the very often goes black when switching between windows. This is pretty horrible when trying to sync colors. It's been like this since at least Photoshop 2022.

The issue is kinda hard to explain so I made a recording of it.

I'm using a dual monitor, so here are some specs if it helps:

Mac Studio 2022

Apple M1 Max

Memory 64GB

macOS Sonoma 14.0 (but the issue has been since a couple of years back)

Apple Studio Display 27inch x 2

This was supposed to be a bug report, not a discussion. Is it not possible to edit my post?

Thanks a lot for the tip @Kevin Stohlmeyer. This seems to have solved the issue. Will repost after a full day of work next week IF the problem continues. Next time I am going to be asking questions here a lot faster then this time around.

@wt_imagework I've merged your two posts together as they seem related. Let me know if the Deactivate Native Canvas doesnt resolve.
