P: PS 26.11 & 27.1 - Shape Layer Fill color gets changed on selecting shape layers

After the latest update, Photoshop (27.1 /win 11) started showing a very unpleasant bug.
As soon as I open a PSD file, without doing anything (just by selecting a few layers), the fill content of several "fill layers" changes automatically.

This happens with simple "Shape layers", rectangles.
See my history state without doing anything elese but selecting a few layers in the freshly opened PSD:

For example, a layer that originally had a black fill suddenly has a gradient applied. In another layer with a gradient, the orientation gets flipped by 180 degrees.

It may seem random, but I suspect the "shape layer fill" is automatically set according to the first selected layer in a row! In any case, it completely ruins the opened document. I can re‑set the layers, but the same thing happens again the next time I open it.

It’s extremely frustrating — basically, it makes the program unusable!

I might try downgrading to a lower version to see if that helps.

Please fix this serious issue ASAP.

Try on this PSD file.
Just click on the first Layer 1 + Shift-Click on the last one to select them all.
All the Fill Layers change - total mess!! 😞

I'm a little annoyed when I want to select several shape layers by pressing shift, but when I do it turns out the set shape layer fill command is also applied, this also happens when I select in the layer tab directly even though I use shift and cmd. this only happens when I update to version 26.11.2 to 27.1, in version 2025 nothing like this happens, is this a bug or is this a new feature? I really appreciate and hope for help from this community because this is disrupting my workflow

Hey, @scivo25242130anm3. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more information to help you figure this out. Please share the system information from Photoshop Help > System Info > Copy and paste it into a text document > Upload and attach it here.

I couldn't recreate it as described, and Photoshop behaved as expected. Please feel free to share a video of the behavior.

For now, ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup.

Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2026 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2026. old), You can restore these preferences later if you need to.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install.

Also, please test and confirm if the issue exists with Photoshop (Beta). You can get Photoshop (beta) from the Creative Cloud > Apps tab > Beta Apps section.
