Hi i need some help.

I brought a new pc and had to download all the photoshop software again. since doing so my SHIFT key no longer scales my images but i found holding the S key whilst hovinging over the corner of the transform box worked however this is really annoying and would like to have it back to how it was before any help and suggestions would be much appriciated.

I have tried conatcting adobe but no luck

    All sorted thank you!

I wnt to Photoshop > Preferences > General > Put a checkmark on "Use Legacy Free Transform" option > Then Restart Photoshop.

Works perfectly now. Just hard habit to stop pressing shift when scaling lol

In addition to what others have said, the default behavior now is that images will be resized proportionally when no modifier keys are pressed. Holding Shift with Free Transform will now distort.

You have been given the two ways to change the behavior earlier in this thread if you decide you don't like the new method. It only took me a couple of days to adapt and I like it better now.

Hi, Jane, how do you cope with the fact that all the other apps behave like in the legacy mode? or some of the transforms in Ps also?

    Hi

I have been teaching new users for over 30 years. I used to spend at least five minutes covering proportional scaling with Shift and then in a later exercise I'd stand in the back and watch as several would pull a side handle followed by the bottom handle. We would then go through the exercise again.

Experienced users can change it if they want to, but I have seen too many distorted images that make it into print.

I use a lot of applications and manage to keep them all straight. There are so many more nuances to keep track of besides this one! I think the way of the future will be proportional by default for images, but I would never want shapes to be proportional by default.

And I'm glad I get a choice, as we all have different ways of working. 😊

The Photoshop Preferences can be found in the Photoshop menu on a Mac and the Edit menu on Windows. Within the General tab is the button Use Legacy Free Transform.

Hi, the transform behaviour is toggled via the link icon in the Option bar...
