This is the dock clock tower at Middlesbrough in the North East of England. It was built in 1847 and served as both a clock for the dock area and a water tower for the hydraulic dock gates. It only has three clock faces as, reputedly, one dockside business did not want its employees clock watching! In the background is the Tees transporter bridge , but that might be a subject for another day.
Enough of the history. Can you now put the tower to a new use?

Do you know how they filmed this, @Trevor.Dennis ? These days they would use drones.

These two clock faces have no hands, so no employees can clockwatch on these sides, either! I've fixed them for you.

Morning tea-break on one side and afternoon tea-break on the other, Jane. Sounds ideal 🙂

I'm glad they use XII for twelve, instead of IIIIIIIIIIII.

While I was adding the new faces, I noticed the originals were in Roman numerals: I II III IIII IV. With perfect timing, WaPo had an article this week explaining (or attempting to explain) why clocks use IIII instead of IV.

It took me a while to spot the difference with this one John. Then when I did, I had the order wrong in my head, and was thinking that you demolished, whereas you actually fixed. You made a very nice job of it as well.
@davescm I am surprised the tower has been allowed to fall into disrepair. It has a look of a Heritage Building about it. Then again, perhaps it is a Heritage Building and the town council put in plans for the repairs ten years ago, and the powers that be have not approved them yet because they can't get the right bricks because the place that made them closed 50 years ago.

It is a heritage building which is why it survives when the area around it is being modernised. It got some restoration a few years ago in 2005. Whether the parapet fell off after that or was not restored I don't know.

I like that Dean, it reminds me of artist Ian Fennelly's ink drawings https://www.ianfennelly.co.uk/

Thanks Dave. I'm impressed by Ian Fennelly's work. I do some water colour painting myself. I like Ian's technique.

I looked up your transporter bridge — we don't have anything that comes close to it here!

My father was in the Merchant Navy and probably 60 years ago, we a a family stayed the the Middlesborough Merchant Navy Hotel ( long gone ). https://www.flickr.com/photos/bolckow/2265188434/in/photostream/
To get to and from the shipyard where my father was working, I crossed using that transporter bridge,
It's a wonderful piece of engineering and it's great that it's still working.

Terrific, and interesting, it only carries 9 cars in the gondola per trip. I hope the area doesn't suffer strong winds too often!

Euan, your link is from 2017. Everything I read said the Tees Transporter Bridge is closed now due to serious safety concerns. There's talk of repairs. Dave will have to fill us in — either now or later if he highlights the bridge in a future SFTW.
Jain, I live not far from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and it always closes for safety reasons when there are high winds.

Ah, that's sad to hear. I'd did know that the walking route had closed.
