Hi,
Thanks to all who participated in our last 'Scottish Drama' challenge.
Today we have an anchor, which I snapped earlier this week while walking on the quayside at Whitby in the northeast of England. It is no longer in use and the wood and metal are ageing and weathering as it sits there exposed to the elements and with its foot in the weeds.
So, for this weekend's challenge, can you put the old anchor to a new purpose?
The “rules”:
* Use one of the starter images as at least part of your own image entry.
* Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc
* Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum "regulars".
* There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
* The starter images are made available for you to use in this forum challenge only. Sorry to emphasise this, but the images are not for use elsewhere.
To download the image below, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right.
Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image – please use the blue reply button in this first post. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun.
Dave

JR, a most unusual seagull resting place: no droppings.

The droppings are directly sucked up by the Death Star, which is its source of energy.

I see, JR.
It seems that no ordinary gulls dare drop by, even to the extent that this one is quite safe from being **** on from a very great height.
The Nanny filter caught up with Jane yesterday, and me today. As something new, it now also catches up with British words/inflexions earlier passing unnoticed.
Rejected earlier today because:

Ha ha, Jedi gull 😉

That's a nice job of removing the lobster pots JR. I tried to make out the graffiti on the far pier but I'm not sure what it says.
It brings a whole new meaning to a starlit sky 🙂

I don't know what graffitis says, you should ask Firefly

A nice floral arch - and a new use for the anchor 🙂

Lots of texture in that Chana. I think those flowers might struggle with our North East climate though 🙂

Ah - the old anchor used as a new anchor. A new lease of life as they say 🙂

I followed a literal interpretation of the challenge, Dave.
It took days to track it down, and to find and fit a new rope for the photoshoot including splicing (on the anchor itself so no one can snitch the rope) as well as whipping, and to get permission from Rosa of course.

I was looking around for it Trevor - then I spotted it. Nice one!

There are five separate uses of Firefly and Photoshop's Generative Fill (GF). It might be me, but they are not adding what's in my head to the image, but if I ask for it with Text to Image (TTI) then it works a lot better. When I tried inserting an old fisherman drinking beer or mending a fishing net it was hopeless, but TTI found the old fellow above for me to composite myself. So I am finding them useful tools to use as an alternative to Google Images and Yandex, plus the results are not covered in watermarks like stock images.
Colin Smith talks about the importance of making the right selection shape for GF to fit into. A flat ellipse with the GF prompt 'hat' generated a beret. whereas the same propt, but with a taller selection generated a top hat. Jesus Rameriz showed a cool trick using Quick Select to make the selection so he could do part of the selection with the brush set to 40% to generate this effect.
