Something for the Weekend - Part 232 - Through the Mill!

Community Expert ,
Jan 17, 2025 Jan 17, 2025

Hi,
We had some great entries to our last, 'Cutting Edge' challenge. Thanks to all who took the time to create those images.

This week we are off to the River Wear at Durham, where we find this old fulling mill. Fulling is a step in the process of making woollen cloth. The building dates back to the 17th century although there are records of a watermill at the location even before that. In 1833 it became a museum and part of the university of Durham. It is a timeless and tranquil scene. What can you do to liven it up?

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave

Exactly, everyone always looks for the changes, finds one and then stops looking. And in doing so, you miss the changes that are actually quite big (e.g. the missing ‘vampire ducks’ and their location)
😉

By the way
Do you think the changes in colour and sharpness are too much?

Sharpness is always a personal thing. Myself, I prefer a slightly less sharpened image, although I would sometimes oversharpen before printing to get the right result on paper. But, as I said, how much is right is down to the individual.

I agree Hans-Jürgen; in my experience the best ways to hide changes are to make large inconspicuous ones hidden in plain sight, or to change an important but subtle detail.

Those two old SFTW threads are really worth reading in full; in the latter one, Ged is disguised as Guest owing to some unfortunate forum error.

I like the vibe of the photo, and I also like the deer in it.

Thank you.
But I only corrected this picture a little. The idea and all credits belong to @Leslie Moak Murray

You can find my own creation on page 1 -> https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/something-for-the-weekend-part-232-th...

Question: Is it possible for you to find all changes?
😉

A great job turning day into night Euan. I see those vampire ducks are still sitting at the top of the weir.

That's because they're weir ducks, a splinter from werewolves.

You can tell it's a vampire habitat as it has no reflection in the water.

Best regards, Euan.
