Hi,
Thanks to all who took part in our last, 'Prickly Issue', challenge. We had a great range of entries with both still images and animations.
'Time and tide wait for no man', says the old proverb. So for this week, I bring you a picture of Staithes, a lovely village on the North Yorkshire coast of England. Can you show us what it might look like when the tide retreats?
The “rules”:
To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).
When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.
Have fun!
Dave

If that's the view from the porthole then we may have run aground 🙂

They seem to be making a habit of it @SG... ! First Norway, now Yorkshire!

It's Yorkshire. Must be a sticky wicket.

I like the style on this one @SG... They're both only looking for the ice creams on the promenade. 🙂

I thought I'd add that this was done with Flaming Pear's Flood 2.
Set the horizon for the town without the boat. then position the boat (with no background) and use Flood 2 again with horizon set for the boat. I can remember man many years ago struggling to do layered applications of Flood. Flaming Pear had a tutorial that was over complicated, but it is super simple with a cut out (no background) object. I did a pants job of matching the waves and complexity settings between boat and town I can see now. Methinks I should fix that. 😞

Absolutely love the creativity in your approach! Matching the waves can be tricky, but even as it is, the effect looks great — just a few tweaks and it’ll be perfect. Really appreciate you sharing the process too!

I like it Trevor. Maybe it just needs a bit of wake behind the boat?

Yes. That was me being just plain lazy. 😞
In case anyone doesn't know, the trick is to look for 'wake with black background' and either knock out the black, or what I usually do, is set to Lighten. Screen is too much and looks nasty.
Here you go. You've shamed me into fixing the wake, at least, but the bigger problem is that it's a model boat and it looks like it. I am not entirely sure why that is. I 'Think' it might be that the photograph was taken from a low angle, and the boat from a higher angle. We can see too much of the deck so the boat's perspective does not match the scene's. It's amazing what our brains pick up on. Oh well. It's a lesson learned for the next time.

I love this Rosa. The fish fits the scene way better than it ought to being more suited to a corel reef somewhere very much warmer than North Yorkshire. The little guy looks like it is talking to the camera, so I had to give it a speech bubble. What else might it be saying? (I am totally in love with that Dynamic Text button)

Love this Trevor! You did well! 🙂 I'm looking forward to experimenting with the Dynamic Text button once it’s available in PS. I haven’t installed the PS Beta.
I did think of what he might be saying after I posted this.
1. "Wait… this isn’t my reef! Photoshop said this would work…"
2. "Ha! They’ll never notice a tropical fish on a tin plate in the sand!" 🙂
