Something for the Weekend - Part 244 - Electric Avenue

Community Expert ,
Jul 04, 2025 Jul 04, 2025

Hi,

Thanks to everyone who posted images in our 'Stoned' challenge. It is amazing what came from a few pebbles on a beach.

This week we have 'Electric Avenue', but not the Eddy Grant single from the 1980's (although you might have that in your head for the rest of the day).  Instead, we start with a piece of circuit board. When I saw it I thought of a night view of city streets from above, hence the title, but of course you may see the same or something completely different. Whatever it is - post it here.

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image — please use the blue reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the top of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave

Indeed, Leslie, all visibly wasted, disobeying the warning of their mom and dad candles: you are too little to drink. The cake is about 1/4" (6.35 mm) wide, according to this,

You really have a keen eye, Dave. I never thought about the colours matching the shapes.

Sounds like a fun and creative challenge! Love the cityscape-from-circuit-board idea  excited to see what everyone comes up with.

I never thought of the capacitor as a launch pad, but it works well here 🙂

I expect your colleagues were too sensible to throw charged electrolytics at each other Dave. 😉  Unfortunately, my workmates were not so grown up.   So it's not impossible that a BIG enough capacitor might have energy enough stored to launch a rocket skyward.  Come to think of it, I bet those electromagnetic rail guns use big capacitors as an energy source.

The capacitors are officially a "storage subsystem" in the case of aircraft launch systems and rail guns, since they're intermediate between the source of energy and power delivery. In the case of aircraft catapults, generator flywheels can fulfill the same role, but I don't think those are the efficient or favored option. There was talk a few years back in Formula E circles about capacitors in the regen braking circuit, for obvious reasons. They were originally nixed, iirc, allegedly on safety grounds but most likely due to lobbying by Big Flywheel and Big Spark. I don't know the current state of that discussion.

Hey everyone, for this challenge, I really wanted to create some contrast with the images I was using. So I felt like the opposite of a circuit board is some mossy nature. So I generated an image using Adobe Firefly with the prompt "lots of small details of moss and vines and plants on rocks", and then brought both images into Photoshop, and masked the rocks out of the nature image, so you can see the circuit board underneath. I aimed to create a circuit board, covered and overgrown in moss and vines to contrast the starting image. Thanks!

Cheers,
Colby Clites

This is what must happen if we don't look after our tech - it will return to nature. Nicely done, Colby. 🙂
