The copy I got wasnt "shrink wrapped" it had a little plastic tag ( much like a packet of cigarettes) that you plucked up with your finger nail and pulled it from around the top of the plastic wrapping to unravel it.
I am 90% convinced my version/copy of CS3 was legit but as you say somehow the original serial had been registered with too many accounts.
I should go through my back account statements and try to find where I got it from, it wouldnt change anything but it would put my mind at rest to know IF indeed it was a pirate copy... when Adobe said it wasnt I couldnt believe them I was very angry and yea a little at them...doesnt make any rational sense I know.
Its just annoying when you try to do the legit thing and pay hundreds of pounds to do so then discover you are stuck with a piece of stolen junk.
To Dave,
Dave the way I knew something was wrong was because I didnt get any patches or updates from Adobe so thats why I went to register it right at the start but as i say, when I typed in the number i was told I had put the wrong number in over and over and you know how 0 can be O and 1 can be l and 5 can look like S on those things so I guess I just gave up and decided I would try another time. 12 mths later I discovered the above!
I will NEVER buy bargained discounted software again or even normal priced stuff... I will only buy from the original makers.

Just been onto Adobe official site and they say I have no
on line services registered at this time but the stra
nge thing is that I have an account, again I don't
recollect registering, obviously
I did but I would have thought that the reason I would
register would be to register the copy of CS2. Another ann
oyingthing is that over the years I have bought numerous books for CS2 which now appear worthless.

Dave

Hi Bob,
What a condecending remark.
1) If I bought a stolen car then as soon as I registered that car I would have been informed.
2) So if you see a bargain that is more than 10% off then don't go for it!!!!! So most of the discount stores etc.etc would be out of business. By your reconing only Adobe products would never be offered at less than 10% off. Ridiculess comment.
3) Counterfeit money!! What a stupid comparison.
4) How about trying to answer some of the questions I raised about Adobe's lack of abilty or desire to inform immediately about any fake programs.
5) You are obviously one of the Admin on this site so a little bit more understanding and help would not go amiss instead of this "We are holier than thou" nonsense.
Regards,
Dave

My point is that you're pointing a finger in the wrong direction. Are you saying Adobe has no right to protect its intellectual property once it becomes aware that's it's been stolen?
I'm sorry you got ripped off, but your anger is being directed at the wrong party.

The reason I asked if you registered it on purchase was that, if you had, you would have been informed there and then if it was a fake and you could have done something about recovering your money.
As it is you have learned that, although not mandatory, registration has advantages.
Maybe those reading this can learn even if it is too late for you.

If you read my post properly I said I would like to know why Adobe cannot tell when the product is activated wether it is a genuine copy or not.

Different databases in different departments I guess.

Those that cracked the copy protection system most likely prevented Photoshop from checking the serial number with the Adobe servers. Making the registration mandatory wouldn't solve the piracy problem because it's the same thing as with the activation, all it needs is a little bit of spoofing. The only way to stop piracy would be to keep everything online which isn't going to happen anytime soon.

The short answer is that it may be possible but there are serious restrictions, and they're enforced at registration. Try going through the Adobe website for a detailed answer. If I recall correctly, they have an upgrade FAQ on this question. What is not legal and will not work, if this is your intention, is buying an upgrade to CS5 and then selling your earlier full or upgrade versions. If you sell an earlier version and want to continue using a newer version, the new edition you buy has to be a full version and not an upgrade. I'm sure you understand why, and yes, it is enforced.

If you are using an upgrade and you take the original off your computer then upgrade wont work .
Same if you for any reason reformat your disc then you have to install say CS4 first then the upgrade. similar if you buy a new computer you have to deactivate your copies first then reinstall on new computer first original then the upgrade.

Rubbish ! If you install an uprgrade, say CS5, then remove CS4, the upgrade will continue perfectly. (If it did so before!!)
If you then reformat your HD there is absolutely no need to re-install CS4 before you run the upgrade to CS5, you just have to have the CS4 serial number to hand.

Well I beg to differ having had the experience of having to put cs3 back in and my upgrade to 4 before it would work

YES but de activate it first however the problem with E Bay has been fake work in partcullar to CS$ and no doubt 5 when copies where being sold that where identical in every way except when you went to register Adobe refused as serial numbers where fakes.
You would need to say I wil refund your momies if it is shown that it doea not work

I was sold a fake and the seller guaranteed money refund if adobe didn't work and was not a fake. When i went through Ebay to get my money back they told me to call the seller????? The seller already ignored my E-Mails. i tried and tried to get a hold of the seller and wouldn't return my emails. Then guess what happened the seller closed his account. and i never heard another word from Ebay so now i am out 400.00 dollars i learned my lesson.

Hi,
I'm back again, been watching the posts via my laptop as my main computer picked up a "Serious" virus and I've had to reformat, reinstall XP Pro etc.etc.
I'm sure that a download for CA Antivirus caused the problem, it was supposed to be a trial but after it caused many problems, particularly with IE8 and Firefox I decided to remove it. I then tried to install AVG free but it said that CA was running and I had to deactive or remove the program. I've tried all of the removal progs from the CA site but still had the same problem.Been to the A/V forums but eventually I came to the conclusion that I had to "wipe the slate clean"
My point being that even if you think you are doing the right thing it can still backfire.
Another point being that I had a copy of NERO 7 which Ive had for years and again it was downloaded from Nero site but the problem is that all they do is email your activation code and if you lose that your stumped. Guess what can't find it!! So that is another program to bite the dust!
It certainly seems that when it rains IT POURS.

What about an online offer from an "Authorised Reseller" of PS CS4 for US$99? Is this legit?

He might call himself an authorised reseller but with PS at that price it is highly unlikely.
It is very likely to be a fake and with disadvantages that it won't work properly, it may have a payload of malware and he's got your card details!
