Question

Weird crashing issue — please help

I just downloaded photoshop today on my MacBook, whenever I click on the quick selection tool, it crashes and closes on its own.

Keep in mind there are other layers that are disabled to avoid being in the video. The crash occurs when there's something to select as well.

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

Any ideas?

The Intel 4000 in the 2012 MacBook Pro is Metal compatible as are all graphics in 2012 and later Macs with the exception of the 2012 Mac Pro in which a Metal Graphics card can be added.

I stand corrected - I thought Metal compatibility started in 2013.

What does Help > GPU Compatibility indicate?

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

SOLVED

I used open core patcher to install the latest OS on my 2012 Macbook Pro and it works now. No issues.

That's likely to blow up at some point. OpenCore can't make an old GPU suddenly compatible.
