Where is Photoshop's Autosave File Located on Mac?

Hi there,

 

I'm trying to locate the default file location where the autosaves are.

I need to recover a previously overidden save file. Most instructions guide me towards the 'autorecover' file which is hidden/empty (see pic).

Appreciate any help you can offer!

    Autosave is crash recovery. It's not backup. If Photoshop crashes, the files open at the instant of the crash will automatically come up the next time Photoshop starts.

     

    In a normal and orderly shutdown, the content of the autorecover folder is deleted.

     

    In other words, if it doesn't come up automatically by itself, there's nothing there. There's no point in looking for the folder. It will be empty. Anything in there will open when Photoshop starts.

      Hi, I see you have a MAc, are you running a Time Machine backup on that folder? use the finder to find a previous saved version. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mh35860/mac

      I stopped using Time Machine as a space saving exercise. But following this experience, I'd ought to rethink that strategy. Thank you for the suggestion!
