Why is batch resize image resizing incorrectly?

I am trying to use Photoshop to resize a directory full of images from their current size to 350x350, regardless of the original aspect ratio.  I created a recorded action whereby I unlinked height and width and resized an image to 350x350.  However, when I use the recorded action as part of a batch function, aspect ratio is maintained in all images.  In other words, the width may change to 350, but the height will not necessarily change to 350, or vice versa.

 

 

Why might this be happening -- or not happening, as the case may be?

    Are you willing to distort the images? 

    Are you using File > Automate > Fit Image at all?

      Please post a screenshot of your action step expanded and wide enough to view the content.


      Is your intention to distort/stretch images? Or would you prefer to resize the canvas to 1:1 while maintaining the original aspect ratio?

        Sorry for the delay.  My immediate goal is to resize all images in a certain folder so that they are 350x350px, regardless of what this does to the aspect ratio.  I do not want to resize the canvas, but the images themselves.  So, I have set up an action for which I've recorded the resizing of the first image to 350x350 with the two sizes being UNlinked.  To my surprise, however, this action, when played back, does NOT resize images to 350x350, but preserves the aspect ratio, even tho' width and height were UNlinked in the action recording. Please see attached.

        Expand the Image Size step in the action and post a screenshot.


         

        When @D Fosse said "Expand the Image Size step in the action and post a screenshot," he didn't mean make the Image Size dialog larger. Instead, he meant:

        • Resize the Actions panel taller and wider
        • Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the step called "Image Size" so we can see the substeps
        • Post a screenshot of your Actions panel
