Incremental Save Naming in Photoshop Batch Processing

Community Beginner ,

Currently, Photoshop batch processing overwrites files if a file with the same name already exists in the destination folder. This can cause data loss when processing large batches of images.

In After Effects, when rendering, the program automatically adds suffixes such as _1, _2, etc., instead of overwriting existing files. This feature is very useful and prevents accidental overwrites.

I suggest adding the same Incremental Save Naming option to Photoshop batch processing (Image Processor / Automate → Batch).
For example:

  • Overwrite existing files

  • Skip existing files

  • Append suffix (_1, _2, _3, …)

This would make Photoshop safer and more consistent with other Adobe applications.

Thank you!

Could a moderator please change this post from a "Discussion" to an "Idea"?

Thanks for bringing this up, and @Stephen Marsh for advocating for this. I've moved it to the Ideas and shared it with the team for review.

Thanks!
