P: Bring back "Shake Reduction" filter - Removed in Photoshop v.23.3.0

Community Beginner ,
Apr 16, 2022 Apr 16, 2022

Gordon

You can install version 22.5.7 along with version 23.3.1, so you can have both 2022 and 2021 installed at the same time, version 2021 will have the shake reduction filter

@John Young Photography

As a workaround you could revert back to version 23.2.2

@Eko Wardoyo

Where did you get that version of Photoshop because version 23.3 from the Creative Cloud app does not have the shake reduction filter as it has been removed by Adobe as per my link above

So, because they couldn't get shake reduction to work in native on an M1 Mac they remove the feature completely from all versions?  WTF???!!!

Results were not always perfect and sometimes required tweaking, especially when the feature was first released, but this feature has worked flawlessly for years on Windows machines.  On my new 12th Gen Intel i7 build it is (was) super fast and rarely even required tweaking.

If it works perfectly fine on Windows and even Intel based Macs, why remove it from all versions?  This makes NO sense!!!

Easy fix I guess.  I just installed v23.2.2.  It works great and has all the features I need/use.  I'll wait to upgrade until they release a feature that I will use more than shake reduction.  Will probably be a while...

Kind of disappointed that Adobe removed this filter.  It was selling point back then when I got cc.  WHY! it is so useful for even tiny fine tune.  Hope Adobe will reinstate this function without me downgrading my cc to the earlier version.  It is rediculous to pay for old version & not able to upgrade.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! reinstate.  We are the users.

what kind of excuse is that! "Shake reduction has been removed because it is incompatable with the new version of Photoshop!???" Can't you geniuses make it work! I used Shake reduction in alot of my work in Photography!" Leave it to Adobe to put something in photoshop just long enough for people to depend on it and then remove it! I am getting tired of Adobe's way of doing everything! Pulling money out of everyones pockest every month also! I would rather pay once and to hell with all the Updates. If I want to upgrade then I could make that decision for myself. And by the way Photoshop 23.3 is really glichy and janky! Maybe Elon Musk will by Adobe and unlock it's potential!

Adobe explained why they removed it. It's not coming back, so I suggest you look for alternative software if you need this feature so badly.

Yeah the explanation was brilliant "The technology is not compatible with newer development platforms."

Could not really be more vague if they tried. But regardless when I contacted support they suggested I post on here as the tech people from adobe read these posts so I hope they take note as I am not the only one who wants it back

Yes I have done that for now and it is there. But that means I can no longer update photoshop and get any new features. Kind of makes me wonder what I am paying for ?

You can have two versions of Photoshop installed, you can install version 22.5.7 and 23.3, that way you get the new features going forward while been able to retain the shake reduction filter in version 22.5.7

Yeah good idea but I cannot use both at the same time. I cannot use a feature in the new version then decide I want to use shake reduction.

Do you know if they are going to replace the shake reduction with something in the future ?

I could wait and maybe find something else to use like Topaz Sharpen (which is excellent but not quite as good as shake reduction) while I wait

"Do you know if they are going to replace the shake reduction with something in the future?"

That's a question I can't answer, Adobe don't divulge what new features will be available in future updates

I'm curious as to how you can access it in 23.3 when Ged Traynor (below) notes that it was removed and that is the indication in other posts when doing a Google query on why it is mssing. Is there some way to retain Shake Reduction without reverting back to the prior version of Photoshop?

This just started today.  I have downloaded a graphic card driver, checked for updates, and nothing is working.  In the first screenshot, I took a screenshot of my desktop, and it shows as blank on the actual file, but shows in the navigator.  This happens about half the time; the other half, the screenshot that I paste in shows in the file, but is very badly pixellated.    The paintbrush tool seems to work fine, but just to test things I tried an arrow shape, which again, does not display correctly in the file, but is semi-normal in the navigator window.

In the second screenshot, I opened a photo file, and again used an arrow shape which does not display correctly on the file, but looks okay in the navigator, but badly pixellated.

Third screenshot is when I try to add a type layer.

No idea what else to try after making sure the video card drivers were current and checking for Adobe updates.   Anyone seen this issue before?

Found the solution.  Preferences > Performance > GPU Settings >Advanced and unchecking GPU Compositing.

First, try disabling GPU in the Preferences (Performance tab). Any better?
If not, go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Better?
If not, recalibrate and build a new ICC display profile, the old one might be corrupted.
If you are using software/hardware for this task, be sure the software is set to build a matrix not LUT profile, Version 2 not Version 4 profile.
If turning OFF GPU works, it's a GPU bug and you need to contact the manufacturer or find out if there's an updated driver for it. On the Mac, that's part of the OS update(s) so if this is the latest OS version, you may need to roll back a release.
