P: Bring back "Shake Reduction" filter - Removed in Photoshop v.23.3.0

Community Beginner ,
Apr 16, 2022 Apr 16, 2022

Gordon

You can install version 22.5.7 along with version 23.3.1, so you can have both 2022 and 2021 installed at the same time, version 2021 will have the shake reduction filter

@John Young Photography

As a workaround you could revert back to version 23.2.2

Sorry to report, the release notes for the latest update to photoshop (23.3, april 2022) say that the camera shake reduction filter has been fully removed from photoshop.  The reason given is that "the technology is not compatible with newer development platforms."

For now, the option will be to use older versions of photoshop in Rosetta 2 mode, but eventually other tools will have to be used. I think Topaz Sharpen AI may have this feature.

What it means is as follows: We've got your money and can't be bothered (I was going to use a ruder phrase but that would probably offend the forum police) to expend the effort required, to make the camera shake filter work on M1 Macs. If a tiny company like Topaz can make a camera shake filter work, there is zero reason a giant like Adobe could, if there was the will. Sadly there does not appear to be. I had hoped this function would be in the version of Topaz Gigapixel that I have but it appears not.

Thanks Ged_Traynor for the answer.

It's a pity that they decided to remove it without notifying the us. It's one of the filters that I do use fairly often.

Hopefully they will replace it with some other filter that can do the same function.

The alternative is to use Topaz Sharpen AI. However, I do find that Adobe's Shake Reduction effect to be a slight touch better than Topaz.

Totally insane to me why they took it out. If so what is the replacement?

Just down graded my laptop.  Now working on my desktop.  Hopefully Adobe comes out with a replacement so I can start upgrading my software again.

Unbeliveable. Adobe gives us a one-year notice about TrueType fonts and no notice at all about discontinuing a filter I've found to be indispensible. Photoshop can now magically colorize photos (with pretty good results, I must say) but they can't make an existing filter many of us rely on "compatible" with new technologies? A lot of us would appreciate more than a glib, one-sentence explaination for why that would be. So, Adobe, could you at least tell us you're working on a "neural" replacement, or assure us that if we pay for Topaz Sharpen AI that it will be supported for at least a year from now? I hope that's not asking too much…

Adobe, please bring back shake reduction. It was a really neat feature to have access to. And the results were like magic.

Yeah I totally agree something else is going on here. Maybe an engineer who worked on the shake reduction has left and they were the only ones who knew how to update the code or something.

Why remove a filter when it was working OK... what can be the reason ??

It's ironic that Adobe gets rid of the really powerfull and useful shake redution filter and replace it with some obscure, seldom used graphics tools (or whatever).  PS was originally a photograph enhancement program.

Apparently I can never update Photoshop again. Camera Shake Reduction is one of my most-used filters. It works magic not just for actual camera shake, but also for recovering details in pictures taken with lenses that aren't very sharp.

If you open creative cloud you can click the three dots next to photoshop and choose the previous version which still has the shake reduction (see below)

Can the shake reduction filter please be brought back to Photoshop. Shake Reduction was a stand out feature of photoshop and allowed me to save many photos from the bin.

Removing something as essential as shake reduction without prior notice is inexcusable.  Terrible!
