[REQUEST] Use Layer Name When Exporting Layers To Files

Hi There,

Yes, the workaround is to modify the .jsx script but that's a workaround SO PLEASE DON'T POST THAT AND MARK AS THE SOLITION!

Instead, can we just have a 'Use Layer Names' checkbox to disable the file name prefix option? I'm sure we can all agree this would be the better, more intuitive, built-in solution - right?

Cheers, Ben

I'm gonna keep it real here and say fat chance. Adobe won't even update the built-in Export feature. You'll have to modify the script, workaround or not, Just be happy you have that option instead of nonthing.

I have added my vote. All of these old Adobe ExtendScript based scripts need to be updated, my vote would be for both ExtendScript and the new UXP codebase, but I understand if only UXP were considered worthwhile as the future direction.

For example, many people ask for PNG to be included in the default Adobe Image Processor script. The late Mike Hale extended a variation of the original Adobe script, however, the idea is for Adobe to update the shipping scripts so that users don't need to go and find alternative solutions.

Then there is the alternative Image Processor Pro script offering more features:

Similar for Export Layers to Files. A third-party alternative with more features can be found here:

Also, Export As will use the layer name, however it is limited in file formats compared to the script.

EDIT: While on the general topic, some other scripts –
