Visual Way to Contract and Feather a Marquee Selection

Explorer ,
Mar 18, 2025 Mar 18, 2025

PHOTOSHOP DEVS: Currently, after making a marquee selection (e.g. selecting a person in a photograph) the procress for contracting and feathering that selection is very number-oriented. 5 pixels? What does a 5 pixel feather look like? 5 pixels looks very different when working with a low-res photo vs. a high-res photo. If you don't like the feathering amount after you apply it then you have to start over. I propose a visual way to contract, expand, and feather a marquee selection (similar to the brush adjustment mathod). What if holding control+option+click dragging left, right, up, and down could give you a red overlay that showed you visually what that new selection would look like?

If the initial feathering value is zero, you can control the feathering  by using Gaussian Blur in Quick Mask mode, which you can refine with the various tools under Image > Adjustments.

There already is one: Select and Mask.
