Exporting layers to separate image files?

Explorer ,
Nov 09, 2023 Nov 09, 2023

I had someone send me a few files (PDFs) that they needed me to touch up the images in those files. I was able to open the PDF into APSE19 and have the images on different windows/tabs in photoshop, then moved them all to one new file to work on (saving the psd inbetween).

Now that I'm done with the file, I needed to save all 30+ images into separate files to send back and I thought there was away to export several layers as images... but the option under File is greyed out. I could just simply save each layer one by one with the other saving functions but the exporting would have been faster. Is there any reason why "export" would be greyed out?

Photoshop Elements does not have a native Export command.  It is available only for third-party plug-ins to use.  This discussion will give you more detail.

(I've been using Elements for more than 20 years, and frankly I don't think I have ever noticed this menu item before.)

That makes me wonder why it's there in the first place. I've seen videos showing older APSE versions using a similar function but never metioned there was a 3rd party plugin involved.

Thank you for the info.

For users wanting to use powerful add-ons based on scripts, it's necessary. That's why the option is important even if you don't use it. The problem is that it suggests another function not available in PSE. How would you define the real function wording option in the menu?

What I've done in the past:   hide all the images in a psd except for one- export it / save as a png.   Turn that one off, turn the next one on- and repeat the save/ export.

That's what I ended up doing, though having to do that over 30 times in one file isn't very optimal but doable
