Photoshop Elements 14: Error Message Not Enough RAM and Unable to Access Performance Settings

Hi everyone! First of all, I'm not the most tech-savvy, so if you need to see information or something like that I will probably need to be walked through how to do it, but I am here to provide whatever you need to help me solve this issue. So, in the past I have been able to work fine with Elements 14, no problems whatsoever. I have had it for over a year, and really like it. However, just today, when I tried to open more than 3 photos I have been working on (I have opened over 20 on some occasions), I got an error message saying that I did not have enough ram. Then I tried to save just one picture, and got a similar message.

     I did some digging in other forums and people were talking about going to Edit>Preferences>Performance, and I tried to do this, but then got the error message "An integer between 50 and 8 is required. Closest value inserted." No matter what I do, it will not let me access the performance tab. Even if I can get the preferences tab open, when I click on the tab for performance I get this same message.

I am very frustrated, and from what I have read about what others have tried. Uninstalling and reinstalling and a whole host of other rather difficult fixes have done nothing to help. I am hoping that this problem is somewhat know and/or is being worked on. Thanks! Feel free to ask me if you want screenshots of the error messages or other information, and I will try my best to get it to you.

I currently have 7.86 GB of RAM out of the 8 GB that my computer came with. 64 bit operating system.

    Just perfect. I've dealt with this issue for months and couldn't complete community projects because no one could help me fix it.  Even dumped a lot of programs to free up RAM--some that I really need. You are a blessing.  Thanks so much.

    From another thread, and answer by JDH_2017 ​ much kudos and thanks to him!

    Photoshop 2018 Memory Issue

    Under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\14. 0

    Created a DWORD (32 bit value) called OverridePhysicalMemoryMB

    Set it to a value less than the available RAM your system has, my System has 4 GB of RAM so I used the value 2048.

    Now I can open 'Preferences>Performance' and change values.

    I can see the reason why this works but not why Adobe have broken it.

    Seemed to happen after I installed the Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview 17074.rs_prerelease_flt.180116-1539

    but that might be coincidental.

    Spent two days uninstalling/reinstalling (3 times due to error messages) and updating Elements 14 and finally came across this. It's a Microsoft issue, not an Adobe issue. This is an easy to follow fix.
