Question

converting .img file format to usable type

Does anyone know how to convert a .img bitmap file to something useful on OSX?

I am not talking about disk images, which also use the .IMG suffix!

Thank you!

Looks like from the file, which can be opened in a text editor, it's a NASA image, which can be opened in photoshop

However, as you can see the results are less than ideal, at least for the sample you provided.

So far an application called HiView is the only one i tested that can open the image  so it looks like something real.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but .img is also EIAS (Electric Image Animation Sytem) image files. There is a plugin for that called EIFormat.plugin. You should be able to just search for it and find it. Hope this helps . . .

It looks like GraphicConverter will handle .img files. I'm guessing that ImageMagik probably does, as well.

And apparently ImageJ has plug-in support.

Hey, thanks very much. I have had success with GraphicConverter. You've saved me and my colleagues a laborious process!

Hi there,

Could you please attach a sample file for us or share it with us via Dropbox so that we can have a look at it? Here's a list of file formats that Photoshop supports: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/saving-files-graphics-formats.html

Thanks,

Akash
