Copy Text Layer from one image to another

Engaged ,
Nov 14, 2016 Nov 14, 2016

I googled this and thought I read that I could have the Move tool selected and then select a Text layer in one document and drag it to another open document to have it copied there.  But that does not work.  I do the drag and nothing ends up in the target document.  What am I doing wrong?

There are a few ways to set up the drag and drop—I think the easiest (and most visual) is to use Window > Arrange > 2-Up Vertical (or Horizontal) and then just use the Move tool to drag the text from one window to the other. Optionally, if you hold the Shift key as you do it, the copied object will end up centered on the new document.

Drag from layers pallet to the other document and drop.

Dragging from layers pallet to the other document does not work.  Tried several times.

The 2nd method posted by BarbBinder did.  Thanks!

It should work.

That method works.  Let me clarify when I said it didn't work.  Maybe it's not supposed to work the way I did it.  I selected a text layer in the current document and dragged it up to the document title in the menu bar of open documents.  That did not work but I thought it was supposed to as well.

I have found that technique works sometimes, and not others. It was consistent in the older versions of Photoshop, less so these days.

I like dragging layers from the layers palette for l can target many layers and drag them all at once.  On Windows I do not remember that method  ever failing and holding shift  keep layers aligned.

Aha! That may be the issue. I'm on a Mac.
