Selection (marching ants) disappears when I enter select and mask.

My selections completely disappear when I hit select and mask. There is a light grey layer mask present in the onion skin mode - but no onion skin - or 'on layers mode' is present in the image. My image looks just like it did before making the selection. In the other modes my selection is present but there is no layer mask. I need to mask hair so I need the onion skin. I have reset preferences and unchecked 'use graphics processor' and still have this issue. I'm running the latest cc update 21.0.2.

Hi Sorry for my late reply, I'd missed that you had added the additional info.

From your system info, you are using an older version of your GPU driver. Go to the NVidia website and get the latest driver. When installing, choose the advanced option and tick "clean install". That will give you the latest driver without any carry forward from the older driver.

If that does not resolve, can you post a link to the PSD file and I'll try it here - just to make sure there is nothing in the file causing your issue (if you prefer to PM me a link then that is fine). You can get such a link using drop box, or just saving to the Adobe CC cloud folder and getting the share link once it has synced).

Hi Dave –

Okay – it took me awhile to figure out how to do all of that. Updating Nvidia did not result in anything different.

However every image I’ve tried to select and mask since installing cc 2020 in November 2019 has yielded the same result (no result). I reinstalled cs6 to get around the problem temporarily due to the holidays. But I need cc to work properly.

I made a selection and opened it in Select and mask with "Marching Ants" selected in view

That does show the marching ants :

At first onion skin and View on layers appeared to do nothing. But the reason was simple.

The layer being used in Select and mask was a merged copy of the layers below. So any onion skin or view showing selection against the layers below was showing against exactly the same image.

I grouped all the other layers and turned off visibility - now onion skin and view on layers show against transparency.

In other words "onion skin" and "View on layers" were working correctly. They just appeared not to be working as the subject layer and the composite of the layers behind it were identical.

The first showing your selection just before you enter select and mask - please make sure the layers panel is visible.
