Adobe Premiere Elements 2024: Removing audio

Participante ,
Apr 06, 2025 Apr 06, 2025

Hi

I have created a video using various clips of other videos.

I have managed to remove visual clips of someone i do not want in the video.  However, there are a couple of key visual segments that i want to keep, but i can hear this persons voice over it!

So, i need to remove the audio, we are talking about 3 seconds here (on a few ocassions).

I have been using the 'Quick' not 'Advanced' timeline; as i've found the 'Quick' meets my requirements and looks simpler!

Thanks

It's not quite clear what you're asking, Chris. What steps did you use to remove the audio from your clips? Are you saying this method doesn't work on some clips?

You also say you can "hear this person's voice over it". I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying that you simply want to remove this audio completely or are you trying to mix it with other audio, like a voiceover or music?

Hi @Steve Grisetti - I havent attempted to remove any audio yet...

I've removed a person from all the videos - so thats job done.

However, in the remaining video, you can hear his voice.

I want to keep the video but remove all audio (of a few seconds only); as i appreciate i cant just take out HIS voice, so i want to take out all audio (Mute it).

Hope this is clearer.

Thanks

Steve often has a better way, but if it were me, I would switch to the Advanced mode for this part.   Then I would cut the clip on the timeline to isolate the 3 second section.  Then I would grab the volume line in that 3 second section and lower it as far as you need.   Depending on your needs, there may be ways were you can copy some "background noise" from another part of the clip and fill in that three second section.

@Bill Sprague Thanks - i'll see what Steve says also then 🙂

I did feel perhaps the answer lies in theAdvanced mode- but it does look more complex, so i came here for some advice before i made an attempt.

Once i've done your suggestion, do i then move the clip back to the basic timeline?

or do i need to move ALL videos to the Advanced timeline?

thanks

I'm not used to the Quick mode so I thought I would try it!   Moving from Advanced back to Quick does always work well.

In the Quick mode, make cuts to isolate your 3 second section.  Select the 3 second section and pick the Adjustments menu in the upper right corner under "Fix".   One of the selections is "Volume".  Lower it to what you want.

Hi @Bill Sprague  Sorry - i cant find where this is: "Select the 3 second section and pick the Adjustments menu in the upper right corner under "Fix".   One of the selections is "Volume".

See screenshot of advanced and then 'smart trim' when clicked in it - where am ilooking at? 🙂

Does this help?  The three bars on the left edge open up the menu with "Volume" on it.

Chris,

I made a mistake.  I meant to post a screen shot of where the volume tool is in the Quick view.  It works the same in both Quick and Advanced.   I was trying to not force you to use the Advanced mode.

Hi @Bill Sprague Ive had a look at Quick mode and regretfully the settings do not look like the Advanced view. I cant see anywhere for Volume.

I made another mistake Chris.  I put up a screenshot from the 2025 version.  The 2024 version has the Quick mode volume control in a different spot.   This is from 2024.

Ah no problem!

I'll check this later. I'm surprised I didn't see this though as I thought I'd checked everything on the right nav!

Hi @Bill Sprague I havent been able to isolate a few seconds in the MIDDLE of a video to mute.  It looks as though you can 'fade' volume, but the fading starts at the BEGINNING of the entire segment of video (if this makes sense).  The work around is to create a segment of video just a few seconds long and then fade it, but that means me isolcating lots of sections of footage. Is there another way round this? thanks

The way you do that is with "keyframes".  There is a button under the speaker symbol on the left of the timeline in the Advanced mode.  It puts a round keyframe on the volume line.  You need four of them to create an isolated section.   It is a lot easier to see how it works than describe it.    Try this YouTube video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg9RVPx31BI

Thanks again - I'll give that a go but I've previously struggled to edit a segment in Advance mode and then transition that changed video back in to the Quick mode with my other segments.
