Question

Can we use both Windows and Mac to edit the same videos?

Husband and I want to share huge task of combining and editing about 50 years worth of videos. He wants to use Imac. My MacBook doesn't have enough room for Elements but my Windows 10 PC does. If we use Mac and PC to edit same video with Premiere Elements would that mess up the file formats or something else so they are unusable? Or would we have to take care to work on separate files? (I already know we would have to buy a separate license.)

If it were me, I would install the free trials on each computer and try it out on some of your videos.  There may be problems with 50 year old formats.

If you buy direct from Adobe via download, you have 30 days to get refunds on either or both versions if something does not work to your satisfaction.

If you buy a boxed set of discs from a retailer (like Amazon or B&H) it will come with serial numbers for both Apple and PC, but refunds may not be possible.

Thanks for that idea - might try that. BTW the videos are only since 1987 but many are digitized versions of home movies going back 3 generations, actually to 1937! That's how there are so many, some in teensy bits, and we want to split the work.

I only use Windows, but some 'tips' from other discussions I have read

If you will share video files, you will need to use a codec that is supported on both platforms... someplace at Adobe's site for PrElements I think there is a list of what is supported on Mac and Windows

There are 'some' features available on Windows that are not in the Mac version... a big one is that you may author a DVD on Windows but not on Mac... only important if you want to create a DVD

Thank you. I was afraid that idea wouldn't work but I wanted to confirm it so this was v. helpful.
