Premiere Elements 2018 Audio Issue

I have had clips from several different cards, several different cameras, and several different formats, where not all of the audio imports into my project. However,

they import fine in Elements 14. I can't track down a common denominator with this issue.

Is there an update to Elements 2018 that fixes this?

Thanks for you help!

I also have the problem not having audio in Adobe Premiere Elements 2018 from mts-files from my JVC-camera on my Win7 PC. I checked the mts-files and they don't have AC3 (Dolby) format, but stereo (2 channels) format. Still no audio. When importing same files in Magix Video DeLuxe 2015 program, other format files like MP4 are oke. I have not such problems in in Windows Media Player or other videoprograms. Previously (till a few moths ago) I worked with Premiere Pro CC and also Premiere Pro CS6 and everything worked just fine. But because these products as CC subscription became too expensive for me I bought Premiere Elements 2018.

I visited fora, knowledge bases but I cannot find any solution.

This product seems not to work properly. My guess is that this is not a windows or codec issue on my PC, but a very serious bug in Premiere Elements 2018 that Adobe should fix A.S.A.P.

If anyone knows the solution, I'd be happy to hear.

Please share a clip via DropBox or similar.  I want to try it on a Windows 10 computer with PrE 2018 installed.

If you are going to shoot video that uses AC3 audio, I'd recommend you either use version 15 (or earlier) of the program.

So, yes, I'd recommend you request a refund for the product as soon as possible.

Thanks Steve. Not sure if I got the right info. regarding the .MTS bug. Who knows.

It's unfortunate (at least for us) that there's no real Dolby support. None of the Windows

updates seem to work for us either.

The other thing I'd like clarification on is; I read that if you have the cloud and try to

install CC 2015 or CC 2017 that Adobe has removed Dolby support from those

downloads as well. Is this the case?

I have CC 2015 and 2017 already, but new downloads?

I just received a call from the tier 2 of the Elements team. He said that there will be

no Dolby support for Elements 2018. They took that out and have no plans on

putting it back in, at least not into Elements 2018 (version 16) unless they get

a lot of complaints about it.

He also that this may be the same for future Elements versions, but wasn't 100% sure.

This may not be an issue for some folks, but when you're a small nonprofit with a great deal

of money in 20 video cameras that only record Dolby, it unfortunately is a big deal for us.

I'm waiting to here from CC 2018's tech group about the future of Dolby.

So there it is.

So, those of us with Adobe 2018, are just stuck with an inferior product? Just so I can use it, I put the video in 14, export audio only, and replace the audio in 2018. Slightly more work, but at least I can use the product.

Good workaround: hope you dont intend to make a BD?

As I mentioned in another thread, the lack of Blu-ray export support in Premiere Elements is not only due to the AC3 issue, but also due to the fact that Premiere Elements is not capable of exporting uncompressed Linear PCM audio in any of its disk-export video codecs. DVD export is still present, but now Premiere Elements will only export audio as MP2 (MPEG Audio), which only PAL DVD players are required to support but which few NTSC DVD players support.

As we have said, you will have no problems editing AVC video in Premiere Elements unless your audio is being saved as Dolby Digital. Standard PCM audio works just fine.

Thanks for reply Steve. You are an expert. Compared to you I am an amateur, so I need some more info to understand what I must do to use the 2018 version. I must convert the original files in VLC or another software?

And I guess your advice is a temporary advice untill Adobe fix this?

I would not expect Adobe to 'fix' the issue because it's not a bug in the software. Adobe has just chosen to no longer license Dolby Digital for Premiere Elements.

You can certainly convert the video to a 1920x1080 30 fps MP4, but I'd recommend you do it with Handbrake.

Dolby is a licensed system, John. It appears that, in version 2018, Adobe chose not to license it (as it also chose not to renew its licensing for BluRay production).  That's why it works fine in older version but not in the current version.

AVCHD video not only works fine in Premiere Elements, it's the ideal format to edit with the program!

The issue only comes up when you've got your camcorder set to record your audio as Dolby Digital.

Hi Steve,

Thanks, it's good to try and hash things out, and it's good to hear it's working for you.  Part of my frustration is that most any other software will deal with Dolby audio right out of the box.  i also shoot with a Panasonic cam (AGAC 160 P), and have a ton of video with Dolby Audio encoded. Furthermore, the tech specs say nothing about this issue, and online help doesn't seem to understand that the issue lies with Dolby audio.  I've spent two long hours on chat with them, and their only solution was to encode from MTS to MP4 using handbrake.  That's really a less than optimal solution.  Apparently, an upgrade to Windows OS 10, or possibly 8.1 with some additional checks on media packs etc. will fix.  If that's the case, but it's dangerous to believe everything you read on the internet ; )  put that it the tech. specs already!   This is really terrible business practice.  I can edit video on my Macbook at home with software that was free, with no issues, so I'm really chuffed.

Cheers,

john

Also no.  I just installed Premiere Elements 2018 Windows version.  Doesn't import audio from AVCHD type files (.MTS). They know about the problem and online helpdesk says 30-45 days for update.  There are also issues with screen freezes that I'm experiencing. Definitely don't go this way....

My experience is that it does!  I have a Panasonic camcorder that shoots AVCHD.  The MTS files import fine, audio waveform is visible and it plays through the speakers just like it has since about version 11.  Editing is a smooth and pleasant process.

What is the audio issue? Are you just not hearing your timeline play?

What happens if you go to the Edit menu and select Preferences/Audio Hardware and then switch around some of the settings?

Well I'm busted, I'm actually asking for a friend. Anyway, regardless of the SD card,

and which camera he records on, he says that it will import about 27 min. of a 1 hour show and then

stop. So he only gets 27 min. of audio. His version of 14 works flawlessly.

I've taken a real interest in his problem since I've purchased 10 of the Elements 18 licenses

for our access station. 14 works great for us, but we need to upgrade. So any help is appreciated.

Also, thanks for your training videos Steve.

SD cards will break long shots into pieces due to format limitations.   How is the 1 hour shot getting from the card to the computer?
