FX badge color code missing in new clip redesign

Been mucking about with this, but

I do miss the color code (gray, green yellow, purple)

I used them to see in a glance if an effect was applied or not.

Now I have to mouse over the FX badge as they all have the same color

Or make sure the ECP is open and clip is selected.

Or am I missing something here............

Also..... when i'm moving small clips around I always accidently click on the HUGE "fx" icon and need to click again and again and try not to hit the "fx" icon and my workflow is so slowed because of this!

FWIW: You can turn off the fx button using the wrench menu if you like.

As a professional editor with over 15+ years of experience I'm having troubles understanding what happened with fx badges.

In huge, complex projects there is no way now to see if I already made changes to the tracks. It's crucial for editors! Bring it back please.

Just updated from Premiere Pro 2023 V23.3.0 to try out the latest Premiere Pro version (V25.1.0) and while I like some of the changes, removing the FX Badge colour is a deplorable decision from Adobe. It's crap like this that makes me want to stick with 2023. Makes me wonder why I bother paying for this software sometimes.

It's a bit of clap-shoot.

There are some amazing, needed, and powerful upgrades to capabilities such as the new color management process. Which is a stunning one-version updgrade.

But ... the durn Fx badge thing is a total pain, and while some find the 'new capabilities' there useful, it's a total pain to others of us.

But in all, 25.x is a huge upgrade. Sigh.

Anyone else noticing this issue with track heights?

When you minimize track heights to the lowest size, you can't see where the cuts are anymore. That doesn't feel like a design choice—it feels like a mistake.

The bigger issue (and why I’m posting this here in the FX badge thread) is that when you zoom out and reduce track heights, the FX badge keeps triggering the effects panel instead of just letting me select the clip. Super frustrating.

I get that premiere is revamping its UI to keep up with competition, but now we’re running into quirks that weren’t there before. Hopefully these get ironed out because Premiere still has huge potential in AI integration and workspace customizability compare to other NLEs.

That said, if Adobe locks panels in place like Davinci, I’m gonna lose it. (At least AI lets me code my own premiere pro extensions now, which is pretty cool.)

Anyone else running into this?

Yes the issue with edit points being invisible at min track heights has been fixed in the 25.2 beta

I'm going to add my 2¢ to this thread as I very much miss the color coding on the FX badges. A shortsighted backwards step in the application.

The silence from Adobe on this is deafening.

The silence is deafening but is it really a shock... same company that locked the thread about rounded corners because people were heavily against it but they knew they weren't going to roll it back. Starting to feel like every update is specifically catered to appeal to the masses as much as possible while throwing general logic and workflow out the window

Actually, that thread was locked because they already had changed the look in the public beta. Minimizing the roundness by quite a bit. Which was the then-correct place to continue that discussion. And a few people were getting way outta line in a public discussion over something that had already been changed.

Now understand, to me the change in the Fx badge was horrid. Period. I don't like it, and find it reduced the speed of usability I used to get from that badge.

However, I do recognize that I am not "everyone" ... and that although many of those who agree with me are rather vocal, there are a lot of people that prefer the change. And probably a lot more than either of those two groups, that simply don't care because they never paid attention to the thing.

Yes, I want it changed. But I am only one user ... as are any of us. Keep that in mind please. Be respectful of others and that we all work differently.

Just want to add my name to those clamoring for the original color-coded FX badges. I'm not sure what the thinking was in redoing them. All for sleek GUIs and whatnot, but what we editors really want is more functionality, not less. Functionality and workflow trumps everything.

Wondering if there's possibly been any movement on this? I recently updated to 2024 after working in 2020 for quite a few years and have to say I'm disappointed by some of the updates. The different colors on the FX badge were invaluable to me while editing and during turnover. It feels like some of these changes are not taking into consideration different professional workflows that rely on certain tools. As I work primarily in longform narrative and nonfiction I'm sad to see this reduced functionality. I was really excited to finally be able to update to and take advantage of the lastest version of the software and instead I find myself missing the previous version and features that feel like they've been needlessly altered.

Many of the changes of the last version are, for most work, pretty amazing, such as the new color management options. Very much "worth the price of admission".

However, some things, like the changes to the fx badge, both the colors and moving it to the tail end of the clip, are pretty horrific for many of us.

Yes, this one is very frustrating. And does not get less so over time. PERIOD. And yes, I'm shouting.

Still miss this feature very much.

Have turned off FX badge, it's completely useless to me.

Like many others, I really miss this feature. Wild to think that this change was thought of as an improvment. It's effectively taking away information from the user. 😒

Is this adjusted in 2025? Updated to the final version of 2024... no fun!
