Full Screen mode needs to end when switching apps

Steps to reproduce (seen on Premiere Pro 25.3.0 (Build 84) on macOS Sequioa 15.6)

1. Press Command-` to enter full screen mode

2. Press Command-tab to switch to another app

3. I'm still seeing the full-screen video from Premiere Pro and I've got no visible way to regain control of the system. The usual keyboard shortcuts of Escape or Command-` will no longer work since I'm out of Premiere.

The workaround is to realize that this has happened and Cmd-Tab back to it (even though the task switcher will no longer display), but I'd regard this as a bug. There's no reason why the full-screen video would want to remain once I've used the task switcher to move focus to another app, and it absolutely shouldn't be on top anymore.

(Edit to my last response: there _is_ a mouse pointer in this state.)

  • Issue – when accidentally switching apps while Premiere Pro is in full-screen mode, the UI for the entire computer will appear to be unresponsive.
  • Steps to reproduce
    • 1. Open Premiere Pro. Create a sequence with a video clip on it.
    • 2. Press command-backtick to enter Full Screen mode. There will now be no UI anywhere on the screen; just a full-screen frame from the playhead of the current sequence.
    • 3. Press command-tab to switch to another app. The task switcher will not have appeared on-screen (presumably it thinks it did, but behind the frame of video).
  • Expected result  Full Screen mode should end, and I should see the new app that I've switched into. Ideally, I'd have seen the task switcher when I pressed command-tab in the first place.
  • Actual result  I have what appears to be a completely unresponsive system. The video frame is still occupying the whole screen, but pressing Escape or command-backtick to exit Full Screen mode won't do anything (on account of a different app now having focus). A user can't even go to Force Quit from the Apple menu to kill Premiere since the menu bar isn't displayed in this state. No mouse pointer. Nothing happens on click. Nothing happens on keypresses. The only way to rescue yourself is to realize what you've done and command-tab the correct number of times to get back to Premiere, then press Escape or command-backtick.
  • Screen recording – not relevant
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version – Premiere Pro 25.3.0 (Build 84)
  • Operating system macOS Sequioa 15.6
  • GPU driver version (Windows only) – (Mac)
  • Comparative information helps us understand more about when the issue occurs:
    • 100% reproducible.
    • This might seem like a contrived sequence of events to reproduce, but it's happened to me multiple times by accident. (Enough that I eventually figured out what was causing it, but the first couple of times I had to power-cycle my machine). For me, it's an almost instinctive response to command-tab to try switch out of Full Screen mode.
    • It seems to me that the obvious fix would be to automatically end full-screen mode whenever the Premiere Pro app loses focus. And ideally...
      • Clicking its full-screen video frame should also end full-screen mode
      • The task switcher should have been visible when pressing command-tab
