Mask tracking zero progress

Hello,

I applied the Gaussian Blur effect on a video clip and used the pen tool to apply a mask around a number plate. I then hit the play button to track the mask as the car moves but the progress bar doesn't show any progress. When I select "Stop" I am then unable to select track again as all the buttons are greyed out.

I'm using M1 Max so I don't think it is an isssue with memory.

I can't believe this is still a fundamentally huge bug in PP. Tracking masks is a big deal. I'm soooo tired of manually adjusting and moving masks. FIX IT!!!!!

I've tried using different effects, proxies, reinstalling Premiere Pro and STILL the tracking doesn't work – it sits at zero progress, and when cancelled the arrows are greyed out. Being able to mask a number plate is vital for me, and I have to do it frame by frame. It worked great about six years ago, but has never since. I'm really, really frustrated with this.
MacBook Pro M1, 16GB RAM, PP 25.2.0 Build 147.
PLEASE help with this as I'm wasting hours!
