Premiere and Media Encoder creating D:\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs on launch

A number of users on the U2U forums are having issues with Premiere or MediaEncoder creating a folder tree on their D: drive as follows ...

D:\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs

or

D:\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs\Technical

It first was noted by people with Onedrive or Dropbox, but now several others have popped in that do not have those sync apps and everytime Premiere or Me launch, the apps create the folder-tree and folders.

Delete the folders, launch Pr or Me, the folders are created again.

A bug of some kind perhaps.

Do you have any Premiere bits set to be in that onedrive system?

No, I don't. It's all set by default.

My theory is that it's a problem with the default location of the Documents folder. It seems that when we change that location, Premiere takes its own AppData folder with it. As if the location of the AppData folder was linked to the Documents folder, not itself. We who use OneDrive naturally changed the default location of the Documents folder and AppData came with it.

I've also been having this issue and I do not use OneDrive or anything like that.

My Documents and Pictures folders have also been moved off of my C: drive to a Z: drive and now after effects will make the OneDrive\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs\Technical in my Z: drive.

Hi,

I had the same problem.

You have to uninstall ONEDRIVE from the pc, restart the pc and reinstall ONEDREIVE and there are no more problems.

Oh yes ... OneDrive is the spawn of Satan ...

I had a new build by Puget, and OneDrive was 'active' when I started using it. OneDrive took command of ALL "User/..." folders, the appdata, user Documents/everything, and in fact pretty much ANY folder any app created anywhere on the computer to store app data in.

And it would allow a 'fresh' install of Premiere to store preferences ... but not access them the next time I started the computer! So Premiere was having to constanstly create new "user" folders where OneDrive was telling it.

I couldn't sync my preferences/workspaces/custom keyboards from the CC account on account of OneDrive not allowing it.

I tried every method given online to get OneDrive to play nice, but after two days of NOTHING, I finally went to nuke it.

It took THREE ENTIRE DAYS to finally, forever, NUKE OneDrive off my system. I'd think it was gone, but ... reboot ... there it is again!

I lost a full freaking week of time fighting OneDrive. I do not have any use, sympathy, or positive feeling about that awful mess of software.

Does that answer your questions?

Thank you Neil.

It looks like a incorrect method is used to determine the AppData folder when creating this subfolder. The AppData folder is not always the base for the Documents root since this is configurable by the user.

As a side note: ALL OTHER Adobe AppData gets saved at the correct location so it should be easy enough to track where this anomaly is created in the code

In my case my Documents root is at D:\Dropbox\Documents and Premiere Pro creates a D:\Dropbox\AppData every time I run it, with just that LUTS\Technical empty folder inside

I have exactly the same issue and it is absolutely a bug.
All other Adobe apps use %AppData% system variable to point to the correct folder.
I scanned the registry, but can't change it from there.

I am having the same exact issue since I installed the newest 2020 update of Premiere CC this week. My Documents folder is also on my D:/ drive, and Premiere creates the AppData folder each time it launches, after I delete it. Frustrating that it can't be pointed anywhere else.

I have the same problem. On every launch of Premiere the folder "D:\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs\Technical" is created (folder is empty). All Adobe software is on drive C:. I never installed Dropbox, but I had OneDrive installed (never used it and uninstalled it before installing Adobe CC).

EDIT: Here 3 threads from the Adobe community concerning this topic (maybe there are useful information for the developers):

EDIT 2: I have the same problem on my second PC (laptop), which has the same software installed.

Premiere and After Effects (and all the other Adobe products) got a major update, which I installed today. Not only that this bug is still present – now also After Effects creates this directory!

I have the same problem which sent me searching for solutions which lead me to this forum. My LUTs files are being stored under my OneDrive even when I point all other app folder and temp folders to another (D:/) drive. I delete the LUTs folders from OneDrive and restart Adobe Premiere and it recreates the LUTs back-up in the cloud which makes the entire program a bit sluggish. This has been an ongoing issue in my PC configurations (home, work, etc.) for several months now, if not longer...

04-20-21 - Well, just a follow-up a year later from this initial post/comment as the problem still remains after several updates. It's quite disappointing when you're paying $60/mo for a software suite that can't be fixed or debugged in over a years' time from such an annoying little bug in the software... but here we are... still waiting...

I have the same issue, although it's putting the folder in my OneDrive folder, when it really should go here, C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe. I have it here as well.

My biggest issue, I have a desktop @ work and laptop for home. Both are syncing data to OneDrive. One drive complains the folder already exists and causes issues with OneDrive sync. Even when I tell OneDrive not to sync the folder, it still does. This sounds like a MS OneDrive issue, but if Adobe would put their AppData where it's suppose to, I wouldn't have this issue.

I also get this issue, an error in the definition of the path, should be linked to /User/user/ not ../Documents or whatever the system variable being used is. All the other appdata folders are properly defined.

I;m having the same problem, i.e. Premiere pro uses the root-directory of the drive containing my personal folders to always create "AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\LUTs" upon starting the application.
But in my opinion Premiere should use the standard path for it, i.e. C:\Users\Username\AppData\.... where also all other Adobe-Data are stored.
