Premiere Pro 2025 crashes all the time whilst using MOV files

Community Beginner ,

Hey guys,

I've recently come up with this problem where Premiere Pro 2025 randomly crashes, but only when my source files are .mov's. Just dragging through the timeline will sometimes crash it. Rendering crashes EVERY time, and even when using Media Encoder, I get the same issues.

I'm using Windows 11.

13th gen i9-13900KF

4090 GPU

My workmate can render with no problem on a similar system and I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I've updated all drivers (Using studio versions for GPU). I've installed codecs. I've tried rendering with no audio. Nothing works.

I don't get crash reports, it just shuts down after 5-10 seconds of locking up.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? And if so, did you manage to solve it?

Many thanks!

Hey guys,

I've installed codecs.

By @bazzamattaz

That is a not a very smart move.

Codec packs can mess up your system. Instead of using the good codec that windows or Premiere supplies they are swapped for lesser codec.

Only way to get rid of them is to re-install windows.

Post screenshot of mov in MediaInfo in treeview

Tried trashing Preferences?

Would you be able to file share one or two of the files so we could see what files are crashing your system?

Thank you

Hi Ian

Here are all the details I can provide.

  • Issue - Whilst using .mov files in a sequence I experience freezing and crashing whilst scrubbing through the edit. No warnings, just shuts down.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 25.1.0
  • Operating system - Windows 11
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • CPU - i9 13th gen

    • GPU Nvidia 4090

    • GPU driver Studio version
    • RAM - 64gb

    • Hard Drive  - internal 4tb western digital HDD

  • Video format: .mov file. I don't have access to the camera.
  • Workflow details: Multiple shots but all from the same camera, no effects apart from transitions and speed changes.
  • Steps to reproduce - (Very important!) Just scrubbing through the sequence timeline. Also will not render (even in media encoder)
  • Expected result - Continue scrubbing/render video
  • Actual result -  Crash to desktop.

I've attached a screenshot of the video details if that helps?
