Premiere Pro Extremely Laggy (Even with Proxies & Lowered Resolution)

I'm really struggling with Premiere Pro, and I can't figure out what's causing my extreme lag. Even with proxies enabled and my playback resolution set to 1/4 or even 1/8, my timeline is still incredibly choppy—especially in multicam. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t even work efficiently.

My System Specs:

  • OS: Windows 11 Home (Version 10.0.26100)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10700 @ 2.90GHz

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

  • RAM: 32GB (I've allocated a good amount to Premiere)

  • Storage:

    • HDD: 931.5GB

    • SSD: 1.8TB (I keep my project files here for faster access)

  • Monitor:

    • Asus VG27A (2560x1440 @ 144Hz)

Premiere Pro Settings:

  • Playback Resolution: 1/4 or 1/8

  • Video Preview Resolution: 720p

  • Proxies: Enabled

Footage & Workflow:

  • Camera: Canon R5C

  • Codec: CLog3

  • Footage Resolution: 4K

Other Notes:

  • I’ve had this issue ever since I got Premiere Pro.

  • The lag is especially bad in multicam sequences.

  • Even at the lowest playback settings, it remains sluggish.

  • My drivers are fully up to date (NVIDIA Game Ready 572.70 - March 5, 2025).

  • I’ve gone through extensive troubleshooting—adjusting RAM allocation, clearing cache, testing different playback settings, and more—but nothing seems to work.

I feel like my hardware should be more than capable, so I’m wondering if there’s a Premiere setting or workflow issue I’m missing. Has anyone else experienced this? Any fixes or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hi @defaultue7cetoz0a4p  and welcome to the Premiere Pro Forum community.  Thank you for taking your time to file a bug report. We would like to help figure this out with you. The team just needs a little more information to begin troubleshooting. If you could just jump to the link here  How do I write a bug report and follow the steps to providing more information about your bug, we will gladly take a look. Which version of Premiere are you currently on ? Also where is the media you are working from being stored? External hard drive, NAS storage, local internal hard drive, one drive etc...
Thank you

Ian

Are the proxy files 1080p (or 720p) ProRes 422 Proxy?  That should perform well with multicam source Sequences with a few streams of video on a 10th gen Intel with fast storage media.
