P: ProRes RAW will not play correctly on a Windows computer with an AMD GPU.

I am attempting to view, decode, and edit with ProRes RAW footage taken on an Atomos Ninja V in Premiere Pro. and I cannot get it to decode even after installing the decoder from Apple. I have tested different drivers, different Windows updates and versions, and I am beginning to think, especially after research, that it is an issue with AMD GPUs. I am using an RX 6800 with Ryzen 5 5600, 32GB DDR4-3600, and Windows 11.  Please help!

@Lagunaman505  @jerry_1829  please consider trying our ProRes RAW for Adobe Premiere plugin: OCTOPUS RAW Studio. We have developed our own highly performant GPU processing pipeline with specific optimised code paths for AMD GPUs, Apple Metal GPUs and NVIDIA GPUs.

@Lagunaman505 @jerry_1829 I've updated my original response to this issue to make it clearer that this is 100% an Adobe issue.

Thank you for your update. Can you advise if the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti can process ProRes Raw.

Thank you. That's great to know. What other video editing software can you recommend that will support prores raw with an AMD gpu?

I wish someone told me this in the beginning because now I need to spend a lot of money to fix this problem. My next question is who is dragging their heels, AMD or Adobe?

Hello, person who started the thread here. AMD is *not* the issue, even if
Adobe wants you to think that. I've tested numerous other softwares in
working with ProRes Raw with my RX 6800, and they all worked. It is
specifically Adobe products not allowing computers with AMD GPUs to decode
the footage for some reason.

Look, there are only two viable platforms for content creation: Apple silicon and Nvidia (not Windows and Mac). If you're good with a desktop, it's the best Nvidia GeForce GPU that you can afford. Period. Those Mac studios are overpriced and under powered. If you need portability, it's a MacBook with the best M-series cpu/GPU that you can afford. Even the best PC laptops have some kind of comprises, of which this AMD GPU + prores big is an example.

This is the way it is. We just have to deal with it.

@jerry_1829 the issue has not changed. We do not currently support playback of ProRes RAW media on computers with only an AMD GPU. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Fergus

Does Puget systems have any papers on AMD GPUs and ProRes RAW on their site? They tend to have created data on a lot of these things.

If it's still happening, they haven't fixed the encoding problem. Return your AMD gpu and fork over the cash for a green one. I got a baselinett 4070 to from msi with the same components. 4K 30 playback on ProRes raw full quality no issues.

Any update on this issue? I've just built a new computer (AMD 6750), purchased a Sony FX3, and purchased a new Ninja V, all so I can use ProRes Raw, and I've just encountered this roadblock.

They still don't care. The same guys still stonewall for Adobe, too
