Special Fonts Causing Slow Down

I've imported special fonts from Adobe Fonts to use in place of the standard ones that come installed, but it's really hard to move them around and make any modifications to them without Premiere being really laggy.

The imported font affects other elements on the screen like images, causing them to slow down and behave incredibly laggy too.

I have 32gbs of Ram, M2 Pro Chip, so it is definitely not a hardware issue.

Does anyone know why using special fonts imported from Adobe Fonts would cause such a slowdown?

Attached a photo of the font in question, i've tried other ones so I don't think it's this font in particular.

Hi @aprilfloodgate,

Thanks for the bug report. Your screenshot shows the image issues you are having clearly. Doesn't look pleasant. Which Adobe fonts were you using? That may help the devs solve the issue more easily as they must reproduce the problem back in the lab. Any other details you can give can also assist them: How do I write a bug report?

I saw a similar bug report but they were not using Adobe Fonts. Have a look: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/title-font-changes-when-exporting/idi-p/13846733

I really hope that they can get to the bottom of this weird issue with a bit more info. I will bring the issue up with the team, as well. Have a good weekend.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin!

Thank you for getting back to me;

So, my project has numerous special fonts, animations and overlays.

I was able to solve the lag issue by deleting all of my media cache files (going into finder, deleting all files in under Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache, Media Cache Files and Peak Files)

However, this only solves the problem for about 20 minutes or so, before Premiere starts lagging up again. Then I quit it, delete all the files, and reopen Premiere. So I do have a solution, but I would love to find something more long-term, as it's quite annoying to have to quit out of Premiere every 20 minutes/every time I decide to play the project back from the beginning.

I've attached screenshots of a framegrab from the video (so you can see all the different elements), as well as of the timeline, so you can see the complexity of the project. It's a lyric video, so the bottom track is the main video, everything else is animations and text. Each word spoken in the song has a different text element and animation.

In the frame grab, there are 4 different green screen videos overlayed on top of each other, 4 different text elements, as well as some png images being animated, and the text has effects on it as well. So maybe I am just pushing the limits of Premiere, but this seems odd to me as professional level editing surely involves way more elements...

Looking forward to hearing back,

April

update: every time I add a new font, it goes back to it's laggy slow state

I delete the contents of the media cache, media cache files and peak files folders, empty the trash, then re-open premiere, and the problem is fixed, but everytime I add a new font the cycle repeats

Same issue with me, I'm just adding captions for a video podcast and my client wants me to use their branded fonts. The variable fonts makes it worse, the playback doesn't show any videos anymore.

I'm using i5-7600 and its iGPU with 32GB ram. This issue isn't apparent when I use Adobe fonts.
