Typing in text box presses keyboard shortcuts instead of updating or adding text in text box

Issue

When attempting to add or update text in a text box in a video (e.g. manually added subtitle text on it's own layer on the timeline), typing desired text results in Adobe Premiere receiving key presses as keyboard shortcuts instead of text to be entered in the selected textbox. The video monitor shows the text box as selected as well as the text within the text box, which is highlighted with a faded red overlay indicating that the text in the text box is selected.

Adobe Premiere Pro Version Number: 23.4.0 build 59

System Info:

  • MacOS
  • Macbook Pro M1 13-inch with 8-core GPU
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1TB Internal, however video for the project is stored and accessed via external 4TB SSD via thunderbolt using a Belkin - Connect Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station 5-in-1 96W Power Delivery for Single 8K or Dual 4K Displays with PSU and TB4 Cable - Gray

Video format:

Does not apply. Bug occurs regardless of video format.

Workflow Details:

Using dual monitors with sequence timeline in laptop monitor and project dock, effects controls, program monitor, effects menu, additional program monitor, source monitor, and audio mixer in external ultrawide monitor.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Have the Selection Tool enabled
  2. Copy and paste an existing text box with text in it from somewhere in a sequence timeline to another portion of the sequence timeline
  3. Use the selection tool to double click the newly pasted text box in the program monitor so that the text in the text box is selected (highlighted red).
  4. Start typing

Expected Result

Highlighted/seclected text in the textbox is updated/replaced based on keys typed.

Actual Result

Seemingly random keyboard shortcuts are rapidly executed.

@solidvision,

Thanks for the thorough bug report. See my update here:

You'll see that staff @AnnikaKoenig is very interested in the type of info you submitted.

In the original version of this bug, the problem was triggered by a specific cause (e.g. adding and deleting a mask).

If you close all projects and close PR, restart it and create a new test project, add only one clip, etc, can you create the issue?

A screen recording that starts when you create a new sequence would be helpful.

Stan
